The material would be around a part that is made out of fiberglass or ABS plastic. When it comes down to it usually it is a preference of taste which do you like better. Both pieces will look great, but the carbon fiber piece will be stronger and lighter.

for example here is a picture of real carbon fiber

and here is a picture of hydro carbon fiber
I have a quick question. What is the sustained speed capabilities of the Hydro splitter?

I doubt the speed ratings for either piece are of concern. Both materials should easily withstand anything you can produce with your car. Its just that carbon fiber is stronger than plastic or fiberglass as a material generally speaking. You will not break either piece from aerodynamic loads. Where ya gotta watch it as far as breaking the splitters go is on uneven pavement. IE steep driveways, parking curbs, potholes, dips in parking lots, etc... And unfortunately, the stronger carbon fiber material will be just as suseptible to damage as ABS or fiberglass. So be careful no matter which material you end up going with.

The weight is not much different either. You are talking a matter of ounces, so its not going to benefit you much more for carbon fiber there. If weight is a concern for you, there are far more beneficial places to look into.

Essentially, it comes down to looks IMO.

Don, thanks for the quick reply. On a front splitter what kind of weight difference are we talking about?

Not know what the sustained speed you are going to be hitting in most cases they both would be the same however if you are going over 130 MPH for a sustained speed then we would suggest getting the splitter brace it is part # zr1s82 shown here http://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1945 However my personal opinion if you are looking to hit land speed records of 200 mph or more than I would spend a little more and get our real carbon fiber it is made the same way that is on the ZR1 Corvette

Your Welcome, The difference between the two is 1 pound, the Hydro Carbon wrapped fiberglass is 2.5 pounds and the real carbon fiber splitter is 1.5 pounds.

Default Painted parts

Safe to assume the painted parts are fiberglass and weigh about the same as the hydrocarbon?? Also the fender extentions, these are the ones on the front of the rear wheel wells? And are they available in flat same as factory? Thanks

You are correct, the painted and Hydro carbon would weigh the same. the fender well extensions are just like the factory GM pieces. here is a picture of them. Thanks, Don

Question, this is 100% carbon fiber not a carbon fiber overlay over fiberglass? That means if I turn it over it won't look like fiberglass underneath, correct?

Hi Grim Reaper, The parts are made out of true carbon fiber with an extra layer of fiberglass is used for reinforcement. So if you look underneath the part you will see a layer of fiberglass cloth. Thanks, Don

Carbon fiber is stronger than fiberglass. Why would you need fiberglass for reinforcement?

You are correct Carbon Fiber is stronger than Fiberglass and our Carbon Fiber products are made with the same amount of Carbon Fiber material as the factory Splitters and Side skirts and by adding an extra piece of fiberglass cloth in it makes it stronger than the factory pieces and still makes the part a fraction of the price as the factory parts. In fact MANY ZR-1 owners will buy our splitter after they bust their factory splitter and tell us how ours are stronger than factory. When you get right down to it we have learned from the mistakes of others and we try to improve our products.
