[Z06] how many people with no engine problems?
#81
I'm the original owner of a 07Z, it's stock with the exception of a Calloway CAI. It's at 48K Mi., no track time, excessively maintained, and declared "OK" by two dealers based on them listening to it. It's now off it's extended warranty, and while there have been no issues, I'm concerned enough that I plan to have it throughly checked-out.
A truamatic failure resulting in a $15K engine replacement doesn't make sense in a car worth $40K+/-.
I resent having to do this, and it makes me wonder just how extensive GM's original endurance testing of the engine was. While i've enjoyed this car more than I expected I would, it's starting to remind me of the last new GM car I purchased, a Chevy Vega..another GM engine disaster for those of you old enough to remember.

I recently purchased an 08 with 24k on the clock, had a corvette mechanic do the 'wiggle test' all are well within tolerance so no issues here. I do not know the history of this vehicle, it has an extensive carfax but primarily oil changes and things of that nature.

08 Z06 with ~ 45K. I am the second owner so not sure of the total history, but I doubt it was driven on the track by him (i haven't either).
I too, have not had engine checked, but did have Paul (The Corvette Mechanic) drive the car and he said I had nothing to worry about, and that the car sounded fine (I know, I know, this doesn't prove anything).
Trying to not worry about this issue since I have GMPP. If I thought there was a competent mechanic in this town, I'd have the engine checked out. Unfortunately, I think I'd come back with more trouble than I brought it in with, if I let anyone take it apart. I've had horrible experiences with Dealers around here

That must mean there are thousands of blown motors that we won't hear about on a forum!

ZERO issues. I am hoping that the troubles with the earlier models have been fixed. LOVE the car. Most fun of any car that I have ever owned. Wish I could say the same of some of the other Vette owners I have run into. Here is to hoping that the C7 improves the demographic.

2006, family owned since new. Never tracked.
It had 12,000 stock miles without a single problem. Did some modifications this spring, heads, cam, headers, etc. The factory heads looked to be okay. Primary reason for the modifications was purely for power.
I love my Z. There isn't too much I would consider trading it for at this point.

'09 here as well with 10K miles and I have 34 months left on my GMPP...originally I thought I would just extend the GMPP and hope this mess all gets sorted out eventually; but I don't think GM will ever issue any sort of a recall. So my plan is to take it to a local vette shop (I have a few good ones to choose from) when the GMPP is up and pull the heads and either re-work the stockers or get some brodix heads, go with a mild smog cam (I'm in CA), and tune the car. I suppose I should throw $100/month in the piggy bank and I should have all the money I need when I'm ready.

Since my last report in May (post# 8), I've got about 2,000 miles more with no problems - I'm up to 46,866 miles on my stock 2006 Z06.
I just got back from the annual trip to VIR - 1,330 miles round trip on the highway (pulling my trailer with track tires, tools, spares, etc.), plus 200 miles of hard running on the track.
As much track time as my cars has, I'll probably do the heads this summer, but so far the car runs STRONG!!!

2006, bought in Nov. 2011 with 39k, now has 46k. 4 previous owners and I know nothing about how the car was treated before me. I know it had a new tranny in 08. Only mod is CAI as far as I know (not sure if its been tuned). I have not had the wiggle test done, and so far, no problems. No track time and I have never had the car to red line.

I bought a new to me '09 Z06 with a 3LZ interior and just over 19,218 miles on the odometer in February of this year. It now has +26K miles on it, one track day, oil change, clutch and brake fluid flush, and not engine problems. I did have to replace the entire fuse box ~$700, but I also bought an extended warranty so I was reimbursed.
Next track day is in August and I'm just going to push it hard while stock until the warranty runs out.

'08 purchased new in Jan. 2008. At 37K miles had valve test completed by extremely competent Master Corvette Technician before a 7,800 mile cross country trip. Valve guides showed very minimal wear which was total comfort for the trip we made in May. The Z has seen a couple of track days prior to the test. It currently sits in the garage with 44,859 miles on the odo. Extended warranty expires in May 2014. I will have the valve test completed again before expiration.
Car runs strong, engine is quiet with no unusual noise, and uses 1/4 quart Mobil 1 between 4-5K oil changes that I do myself.
