[Z06] Biggest expense TIRES!!! 10K a set
#21
After two sets of GY, I tried the Bridgestone and have been very pleased. I've already exceeded the mileage point where the GY rears were gone and have lots of tread left with very even wear patterns. The Bridgestones perform better in the rain. (yes, the Z06 will not melt in rain) The Bridgestone starts life with more tread depth than the GY or Michelin. Alignment is key to treadwear and the factory setting is not it. My tire life extended with the more neutral setting, especially noted on the inside of the front tires.

I have a bit over 20,000 miles on my latest set of Bridgestone Pole Position run flats, and still have miles remaining. Paid less than $1,900 for the set, installed, mounted, and balanced. When it comes time to replace them, I'm going with the same brand again.

ok now that I'm getting ready to purchase my 4th set of tires with 40K on the Z, I've realized this is biggest expense of the car. I called Bridgestone and talked with them about their Potenza tires and the rep wouldn't commit to more than 10K for the tire. I told the rep that I was tired of the mileage I was getting with the GY tires, that's why I was looking at the least expensive tire. Anybody else??
I bought the car to drive it, so it is a daily driver. 50% Interstate 50% local. 2008 with 40K on it.
There has to be a better way!!

I live out West also....had a flat on a previous set of non run flats...on I-8 milepost 161...about 30 miles from anything...called USAA and they had a flat bed come pick me up and take me to Casa Grande....Took me about another three hours to get to Havasu....but all in all a minor inconvenience and I am happy with my Michelins and will not go back to run flats....so I definitely agree with KLRBee

Go with Michelins and runflats. I'm running PS2zps and could not be happier. Good ride, quiet, good handling. 20,000 miles going on 30,000.

I bought my 2012 z06 in Aug of 2011 at 500 miles had street alignment done. Tires lasted to 14700 miles could have gone another 2000 on rears maybe fronts 4000 but I was taking a trip to Fla and when it rains it rains wanted to be safe bought new Mich ps2 zps had alignment checked again. So we will see how this wears may got with the cheaper bridgestones. I paid around 2250 for them then went to Butler tire to get bal job fixed 150.00 of car road force bal. then on car bal all 4 wheels smooth as silk. Oh will not buy from Dekalb tire again rockers got skinned on both sides from 2x6 ramp. I didn't not catch it at the time it was done. Oh tires are quiet now Z06 has 16900 miles now holding off driving because I've been told I have too many miles on it nuts. I'm retired live down south and can drive everyday it's not raining.

The Bridgestones have got to be the longest lasting rf tire on the market for the Z. My car had them on when I bought it at 25k miles. I'm at 32k now and i swear they look the same.

Three sets of tires in 40,000 miles equals 13,333 miles per set (avg) not 10,000.
1st set of tires went from 0 to 13,333 miles. (avg)
2nd set of tires went from 13,334 to 26,666 miles. (avg)
3rd set of tires went from 26,667 to 40,000 miles. (avg)
4th set of tires have not been installed on Op's car when he started this topic, thus 40,000 miles divided by 3 = 13,333 miles/set (avg).

The Michelin PSS in stock 18/19 size are excellent tires and have great grip and a 30K mile front/15Kmile rear treadwear warranty. No UHP tire manufacturer other than Michelin offers a treadwear warranty.
To maximize your treadwear life, print out the Phadt alignment specs (from post #16 above) for street and take them to your trusted alignment shop and get those spec alignment.

My original run flats lasted barely 10K miles. The inside edge of both front tires had steel belts exposed at 10K miles! Had the dealer check the front alighnment. You couldn't see the issue with the fronts without being under the car on a lift. I went with nitto invos. Complete set from tire america was $1200.00. I have roughly 6K miles and so far they look perfect.

I made it roughly 10k on the GoodYears and replaced them with the Michelin PS II ZP's and I can make it almost 36k miles on the first set. I am thinking about doing the Super Sports this next go around.

We all know RFs suck but some people look at the potential risks by not having them. I don't run them personally but I always worry how they can jack up the car when the front bumper may be on the ground, to get the tire off. And if the tire is ruined what would I put on as a spare?

Amen. They are the best RF tires out there.
