Shell or Sunoco
I searched on this forum and couldn't really get a direct answer. Whats better to use shell 93 or sunoco 93? does it even matter and is one slightly higher octane?

I used Shell exclusively for a long time. After installing my headers, the exhaust started to stink when driving it hard and I heard it may be due to the sulfur content within the Shell gas around here. This happened with two different tanks of gas on two different mountain runs.
I went with Chevron on the next tank/mountain run and it helped quite a bit, no smell at all. This was just this past weekend, so there is no long term data, but I think I'll be using Chevron moving forward.
Between Sunoco and Shell, I'd do Shell though.

Sunoco here in the metro Detroit area is clearly labeled as 10% ethanol, where Shell is not not, so I stick with Shell. It's a little more expensive, but considering E10 gets about 3% less fuel milage, I don't use Sunoco in any of my cars. Most don't seem to care though, as the Sunoco around here really pack's em' in for the few cent's less.

Better check if it is a Dealer or Corporate Store. I work in the industry, the flag on station is has nothing to do now with the product in the ground. Dealers can purchase product from whomever they have a contract with for that period of time. Both Shell and Sunoco can be dealer or corporate stores, and sometimes the sites equipment is not in the best of shape.
I have witnessed phase separation at both Sunoco and Shell sites were the product was removed, reworked at refinery and redistributed.
Rather than just looking at what flag they are flying, look at the dispensers and tank pad. If you see newer dispensers such as Gilbarco Encore 500s or Dresser Wayne Ovation Xi, then the site should be in much better shape and the tanks in the ground are probably newer and cleaner.
Just my 2 cents.

Do to the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) regulations the internals of the gas tank, pump and gauge, are made with alternate metals. Those metals are radically affected by Sulfur which is of a high concentration in some brands of gas. Symptom is gas gauge dropping to zero when it reaches a third of a tank. Phase one fix is a quart of Techron, second phase is replace internals at around $1800. Since Chevron has Techron in their fuel I vote Chevron.

Get a grip folks. I use whatever is cheapest. I hammer my Z and she has 40k miles and absolutely no problems. I've got 7 cars, 3 of them Corvettes and I've never had any fuel related problems.

I like Chevron and Exxon the best. Shell use to be at the top of my list but after getting Exxon, (Shell) fell to number 3. Seemed like my Z ran rough on Shell brand as well.
Exxon does very well (top shelf) in both my Z and my Yukon.

Shell advertises that they put Nitrogen into the fuel. Supposedly to scour the cylinders clean but why would you put an inert into a situation where you are trying to get the biggest bang?

here they are all the same fuel...companies add their special brew of additives to make it their brand....i usually go for the cheapest
