Default LS 7 Question

Does anyone know if the newer LS 7 motors are quieter or just as noisy as the early ones ?? Thanks in advance

They changed the exhaust in 2011. Supposed to sound more agressive.

I think he meant the sewing machine noise.

My 2009 Z06 makes a lot of the sewing machine/ticking sounds. I am not a fan, but the Corsa exhaust helps. With the windows down or the music on though, I can't hear it. It sounds pretty sickly though when you are in a drive-thru or driving next to a sound wall, almost like an exhaust leak or a blown head gasket.

The best sounding engine I have ever owned was my E90 M3. The engine sound at 8,000 RPM's was pure bliss. I liked the quiet exhaust on that car so I could hear the engine.

If you are sitting in the car, you shouldn't be able to hear any ticking and when standing outside the car there is a very faint tick if you are listening for it... at least in mine.

Mine's dead quiet inside or outside. '07 Z06. Of course I'm too afraid to start it anymore........ Seriously though, I hear a very faint clicking with the hood up and leaning in.

Mine is an 09 and it's always been quiet. No banging, clanking, ticking or tapping.

My 09 sounds like a sawing machine 1500 to 2500 RPMs.

As with anything mechanical there is variance. There are a lot or parts in an engine and slight differences in every machined component. Some engines will have valvetrain noise at certain RPM and some won't at least for some period of time. I think too many people get caught up in these subtle noises that the LS7 can make. It is not an electric motor so don't expect it to sound like one.

The only real noise I get from my '07 is from the injectors firing. At least until I installed headers. There is a little hissing/ringing from the headers themselves due to the thin wall thickness but that is a sound I learned to love back in the '60's.

same with my '06. Sounds like lifters ticking @1,500 rpms and I can hear it in my car while driving.

Mine too but I thought it was just me until I read this thread. I've only had my Z06 for 6 days now. I never heard this noise with my C5, which I drove for 10 years daily.

Should I be concerned and have a dealer check it out? The company I bought the car from is telling me it's normal for Z06.
