Biggest ZR1 ISSUES/PROBLEMS..RECALLS?????
I am looking for a ZR1 currently and this THREAD has me scared seeing VIBRATION issues etc. Can you list any other common problems I may want to check out before I purchase a ZR1. I owned a C6 Z06 and there was only a roof issue and a diff issue that required different fluid. I just want to be sure these cars are rattle free, not many that vibrate going 70-85 which is a norm for me and any other possible RECALLS. ANy experienced info here would be great. THanks!

My car has 0 issues.
Even my Lingenfelter upgraded motor hasn't blown up like some have predicted.

While the vibration isssue is a real problem in some cars, don't let that scare you away. Just test drive it before you buy it. Overall they are fantastic cars.

I've had no issues with mine either. As stated above, just test drive it first and then do your homework on the car before making a decision. There are lots of good deals out there right now. Good luck with your search!

i had a small cabin noise issue and the dealer fixed it asap and it has not come back. Like another owner said even with my Lingenfelter upgrade I have had zero problems.

I've been driving my '10 ZR1 since January of 2011, and the only issue I have is, it doesn't like driving past a gas station!
To help solve the problem I brought a used '09 Coupe with the LS3. It does much better with the gas, and I'm not getting into it as much as I do with the ZR1. I've nicknamed it my "shopping cart".

Almost 5000 miles on my 2012, no issues at all, if only my Toyota was as trouble free and reliable....
But, if you beat the tar out of it on the track every weekend, take it into the gravel aprons, and generally over-rev and abuse the car, well.....

Both Zr1 and Z06's(Z06 cars specifically with the Z07 upgrade of ceramic brakes) have been known to have the vibration problem in that elusive 65-80mph range. Some worse than others.
While I am a 2009 Z06 owner and not a first hand expert on the vibration issue, I have followed the threads on this as it seems to be a particularly frustrating issue for many zr1 owners.
Some zr1 owners that also have z06's have taken the wheels off their vibrating zr1's and stuck them on their z06's and there was no vibration on the z06- thus narrowing the problem down to the ceramic rotors.
One zr1 owner insisted the dealer replace the rotors(quite an expensive proposition ) and it fixed the problem.. Other zr1 owners have tried to counter the vibration in the rotors by balancing the wheels on the car and compensating with weights on the wheels to offset the out of balance rotors.
GM will never admit that it was an issue with the ceramic rotors.
Other than this I think Zr1's are solid. My 2009 z06 is 100% rattle/ creek and groan free. I would imagine the zr1s are the same.
In my personal opinion if you are not a heavy track person, I think the ceramic brake set up on the zr1 is about as useful as an electric fork.
I went in 2009 looking to buy a zr1 before people were complaining about the vibration issue, and the ceramic brakes, 2 tone carbon fiber pieces and fish bowl hood steered me to the more subtle looking z06.
--However the z06 ls7 has its issues with blowing up and dropping valves as some have experienced. Some of these cars are 100% stock and supposedly have never had any track time and are filled with the appropriate level of oil or so the owner says --- but more blowing ls7's seem to be tuned or modded with heavy track time.
In either case, both Z's are probably less trouble prone and require much less maintenance then porsches and Ferraris. - but the P and F cars will allow you to better troll for poon.

No problems with my '10.
I think the vibration issue affects a small number of the ZR (but obviously a real deal if you have one that is affected).
Just avoid the issue by insisting on test driving the car at highway cruise speeds, and spend time b/n 65 and 80 mph with it. If it's not there, you're good.
These cars otherwise are very robust and tight.

My 2011 has ~ 3300 miles and my car has the slight vibration between 75-85 mph. The vibration comes and goes and it’s not that noticeable unless you are looking for it. My car did NOT have the vibration when I bought it, so test driving them for the vibration is no guarantee for the future. No other problems.
My buddies 2010 ZR1 has ~30k miles and he has had the catalytic converters replaced twice, covered by warrantee. He drives his car hard and says Chevy told him it’s due to all of our gas having alcohol added.

Before you buy one, new or used --- take it on a thorough test drive to see if you can bring out the vibration issue.
