Did Something stupid yesterday.......
Had a few people over the house for a picnic and some people wanted rides in the 65 Coupe and then the Z06. I went for three loops on some back roads and hiway with the 65 and then to the Z. On my second run with the Z, I pulled out and "apparently" there was an officer behind me and videotaped me tearing up the road (25mph speed). Now granted I know the road and know where the driveways are but the guy I was riding listed the Z06 as his dream car and I wanted him to experience the power. I look back and saw the dreaded lights......
I thought the officer was going to drag me out of the car and pummel me he was so mad. I had no defense, I was wrong, I admitted guilt and told him I'm old enough to know better and I accept the consequences. He came back and gave me a minimal fine and said if I would have given him one bit of lip that he would have given me 5 points and suspended my license.
That is my first Citation since I was 17 and that was 25 years ago. If I had been drinking, I never would have taken it out on the first place. Lesson learned I guess. He told me if I decide to fight it, we can watch the videotape in court and see how it turns out. Needless to say, I'll be sending in my $110.

Best and smartest thing you could have done was to accept responsibility for doing what you did.
Most will make up excuses and eventually blame someone else or the officer. You manned up and handled it well.
Lesson learned.

Yes I did get off easy and he told me multiple times. I was clearly wrong and as I said I owned it. It sure is fun though once in a while
One funny part was he got back out of his car to ask me what color it was. It's an inferno orange carbon for goodness sakes!

89Vette,
I can't fault you for choosing your site and demoing your cars. I have done that a lot of times myself. I appreciate the fact that you were respectful and willing to accept the consequences. The thing that interests me is how many people ask me up front, "How many tickets have you gotten in this thing?" My answer is, "None." I haven't even been pulled over in the 5 years I have owned it. Maybe I have been lucky. One thing is for sure. Most of the people I have given demos to didn't think what my car can do was even possible.

As long as we're talking about "stupid car tricks":
I was on my way to Saratoga State Park for a morning run when I was given a free "Laser speedometer check" by the NY State Police. I was clocked doing XX mph (a bit higher than posted).
When the Trooper came over he asked the usual question: do you know why I pulled you over ?
I made the following statement: "Officer, when I was an instructor at the US Army MP School (true, I have the orders) the NCO's used to love talking about how they got people to admit stuff when they pulled them over.
I asked if we were going to have that conversation or did he just want to chat ? After I saw him smile, I honestly responded somewhere in the70's
He then took my license with the question "is it clean" ? (Yes) Came back a few minutes later and said to take it easy next time.
Bottom line: be polite, be remorseful and take what is coming. (sometimes its a ticket for "illegal lane changes" vs "going XX over the limit") I think my Veteran Plate helps out too.
PS: When he told me how fast I was doing, he told me XX. I really wanted to respond "that's all ?"

How fast? I don't really know. He didn't clock me. If I had to guess I'd say 70 or so. He was just really, really mad. He coudl have wrote me for reckless driving and excessive speed and another thing he mentioned that I can't remember that would have added up to 5 points. He told me if there had been a kid on a bike his life would be over and mine. He saw my house when I pulled out of the driveway and said an good lawyer would take it all.
I hear you about people not thinking what the car does is even possible. Frankly neither can I sometimes. An older gentleman I rode in the 65 thought IT was fast and to me its like a 1980 Cadillac Seville Diesel compared to the Z.
Maybe I should ask for the video

It's nice to see there are still some people that have accountability for their actions and make no excuses
OP lesson learned , don't beat yourself up, just don't do it again. Most of us have done a similar stunt or 2, it happens.
