Haven't seen this much freaking out since the GTR was released. But I still think we have a number of redundant threads to go before we catch the "GTR vs Z06" topic.

This might be partially true and if accurate, he did a terrible job IMO. The GT500 just doesn't look good.
The reason I say the above is "partially" true is because I'm pretty sure that in previous years the GT500 KR and Super Snake was sent to the Shelby facility in Vegas for the added power, suspension and decorative features for the said packages.
Let me add, the Super Snake in all black is the baddest looking Mustang to date with crazy power!!! ...I'd sport one of those in a heartbeat...

I don't understand all you haters. Where are the real true "Car Guys", its a 662/613 tq factory built car? I owned Corvette for over 20 years (including C6 Z06's) and I just had a 2012 GT500 and if you've never spent time with one of those cars they are amazing cars is you need a 4 seater. When you throw the car around it doesn't feel as heavy as the cyber cowboys say.It was a blast to drive, very flat and very solid, I can't imagine another 100+ hp/tq. Also remember SVT with the ALL FORGED ENGINE has major potential. It will never be a Z06 and its not meant to be. Anything AMERICAN made with that much HP/TQ deserves respect. Most have never spent any real seat time in a 2012 let alone what the 2013 will offer. Be happy our horsepower wars continue to give us amazing cars to drive.

From what I read, it might be fast off the line and on the strip, but I believe Car & Driver said it simply didn't have the massive hit of power on a roll like the Z06. Courtesy of the 3800lbs and crappy aero.
I'm sorry but you can buy an 07 to 2012 GT500 and do minor mods and make it a 10 second car. I had one. Even with major suspension work, Kenne Bell boosted to 800hp the car was still a boat. Sat high, felt narrow and just didnt have the sexy wide stance the Z has.
And to be honest, if you have a Z, and your REALLY want a Shelby, you can probably swing it. Been there, and came back!

Really looking forward to this car hitting the track where some real world times will be documented. I think Ford has done a great job on raising the bar and this is definitely one of the cars I would love to own.
With all that said, I think folks need to keep in mind that there are many Z06's out there that have broken into the high 10's with nothing more than headers, a tune and running DR's. I know one for a fact that has been in the high 10's several times on DR's and I was there watching it happen. Low 11's are not even that impressive anymore considering some are capable of ripping of mid 11's on the factory run flats in a bone stock car.
I don't really care who makes the car, if they deliver something that cost less than half of what an exotic does and can run in the low 11's from the factory, that is a car to be happy about and give it the credit it deserves. As has been stated several times already, the target is not the Z06 or the ZR1, it is the ZL1 so let the pony wars continue because all of us car nuts just benefit from this battle of the heavy weights. I hope Ford is successful in selling everyone they make because that means more of them will be made keeping the price in check.

you guys are fooling yourselfs if you think this is gonna be a high 11 sec car...and unable to run 10s on drs or ZL1 competition. On tire in stock form i'd say it will be on par with the c6 Z. for proof of this is out there. The new boss with 440 fwhp has been 11.7s with tire and a guy i race with went 11.1s on slick with the stock current gt500 with factory 3.73 gear at 550fwhp and you guys think 80 more hp wont get these things in the 10s....

Strange to see statements about people not concerned much about curb weight, such as really doesn't feel like it's that heavy. Well fact is, a Shelby Mustang is 700 lbs heavier than a ZO6 Vette. I personally like to keep fit at 175 lbs. If I was a Shelby Mustang, would be 215 lbs. Wouldn't be to happy about it, as probably kill myself, before allowing to get like this. Think of a ZO6 with four guys my size jammed inside, on top of the driver already in there. Kinda puts a perspective on what this weight really is.

I LOVE the new Shelby GT 500 but I think its silly to have a second thread on a C6 Z forum, when we arleady have a 2013 Shelby 500 thread, that has been the most popular here the last 3 weeks with over 15,500 looks.
This is coming from a guy who is not even close to being a Vette Purist and loves all bad azz cool American Muscle Cars (old ad new) but this is now getting ridicolous, as this is simply a rehash of the below thead).
I say put this thread into the other cars section or simply consoldiate this thread into the main one listed below this is just pure repitition, and even the title has nothing to do with C6Zs.

I've been saying this for months now, I predicted around an 11.2/11.3 for the 2013 GT500 bone stock (which based on the ETs so far will happen in cooler air) and high 10s on a drag radial or DOT slick. I was a little off on my trap speed predictions though, the car is actually trapping higher than I'd even thought.
It ultimately might actually turn out to be just as fast as a stock C6 Z06 (a car that has gone 10.9@128+mph completely bone stock and 10.71@130+mph on a drag radial).
A few of us have witnessed them going even quicker than that as well, more than a few have gone 10s (10.7s no less) on drag radials in an otherwise bone stock C6 Z06.

As long as we're discussing otber cars, have you seen the 2013 viper. All the latest mags have articles on it. At first I wasn't sure I liked the new styling but it's growing on me. And I bet its faster than the new gt500 to boot.

Absolutely, the new Viper will be as fast as (or likely even faster than) a C6 ZR1.

Looks are subjective, does a 45k Grand Sport look-like an exotic? Does a 40k base C6 look like an exotic? I guess so but there are also folks who would say a Z06/ZR1 doesn't look exotic enough since they are based off a normal narrow body C6 design.
Yes. And most would agree
But anyways, yes dust a Z06.
As I've already mentioned, the mag drivers are already putting out better numbers then they did with the C6Z06 back in 2006 when it comes to acceleration. Faster means.....it's faster last I checked. So while the use of the word "dust" may bug you, in time your gonna see that the GT500 will post faster times then a Z06.
I hope it does run fast times as I'm always looking to upgrade for the most bang for the buck. So far running simalar times and not even looking better than the z, is not making me run to the nearest Ford dealership
Before getting all upset, remember it wasn't gonna last forever and the C6 Z06 will always have a place in history.
It already has a place. And it started 7 YEARS AGO
The 13' GT500 is the newest best bang for the buck out there, give it it's due.....as much as it might hurt lol.

Now,Shelby America offers what they call a "SuperSnake" package. It's very similar to a Callaway Corvette. What you saw were owners cars there for said package.
But the car in discussion in this thread is not the SuperSnake.
