Default How much HP before traction becomes a problem?

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything on this particular topic...

I have an 06 Z that is stock. I don't usually get into modding my cars as they are my DD (plus modding can get expensive).

If/when I decide to mod the car, I wouldn't be interested in trying to achieve extreme numbers as traction in 1st and 2nd gear can become problematic. I'd be satisfied achieving HP that's useable throughout all the gears.

My question is, what's the max HP you can add to a stock Z BEFORE traction becomes an issue in 1st/2nd gear?

Traction in first gear is already a problem with stock power.

505hp is more than enough to get into trouble.

Stock. Especially with the stock runflats and cooler weather. Invos improved the problem, but then I added 100+ rwhp to it, and now first gear is worthless above 4000 RPM. Sure is exhilarating, though.

At 570rw traction w my Nitto Invo is pretty good. When I had the blower on and was making mid 600rw traction was a joke in 2nd and pretty crappy in 3rd. I am extremely happy w a mid 500rw where I was MUCH less happy at mid 600rw......traction wise.

Can't agree more I hate spinning HATE it!! There are times at highway speeds that I would l like more than my 550rwhp can provide, but I hate stomping it at 20 and spinning.

AWD is definitely in my future.

Stock power on the stock Goodyears is too much in 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd depending on conditions and age of the tires.

A ZILLION! You can't ever have enough HP or the car cannot be light enough. Traction and putting the power down is driver controlled!

Rather than adding power, "add lightness".

I'd be interested to find out if anyone has had any experience with the Nt05r's and how much they will hold before traction really becomes an issue?

I have 561whp 510tq and it will roast the tires in 2nd and I have nitto invo 345's, if I punch it from 45mph it will spin all the way through the rpm until the next shift. NT05 is your best bet.

Sorry. To clarify, if I have some of the best tires available (Michelin PSS's, for example), I want to be able to punch it in 1st or 2nd gear without losing traction.

What's the most RWHP I can take the car to and STILL have great grip in 1st/2nd gear provided I have great tires? This is likely the gist of my mod plan. I want to have HP that I can use in all gears. Regarding getting lighter, my research indicates that you have to drop quite a bit of weight to get the same benefits associated with adding more HP.

When my NT05's were brand new they hardly spun in first (headers, intake, tune etc) but after about 3k miles that was over. Now it's a spin fest in 1st always and second when it's cool out. When I had the PS2's on it would spin shifting into third... talk about scary. It only took one or two times at a strip and once on the street to ditch those like a bad idea before I killed myself. Seeing the wall at 100mph isn't fun. If I didn't value being able to drive it every day (if I want) I'd put drag radials on the back. But I like to turn too, and I like the ability tod rive in rain.

The answer is that somewhere around 300 HP traction becomes an issue.

To some extent one can throw tires at the problem and ameliorate the issue up towards 400 HP.

But somewhere above 300 HP, various forms of traction control are deamed necessary (mainly to avoid liability in accidents and other insundry legalities.)

Your already at the point where 1st isn't going to be able to just punch it and expect it to hook with street tires. Your going to need drag radials for that, they can be driven all the time I do it. They are fine in the rain if you aren't driving stupid

As mentioned, really think you're into a tire issue, as bone stock ZO6's will easily spin stock tires through 1st and most of 2nd gears. I road track my car on Hoosier R6's several times a year, and when driving home from the track on these good and warm, almost no wheel spin at all on the street. Think you're at the point, running something like this on your car, and good and warm at that.
