Default Dealer checking for modded pcm

Just past threw my head as I saw a used pcm for a c6 Z06 on ebay. I know the dealer can hook up the tech 2 to check if the pcm has been flashed for tunning.
I am pretty close to getting my car tuned as I have purchased headers, cross over pipe w/o cats and killer bee cai.
Is it possible to put the used pcm in and tune it, and put the pcm that came with the car on the shelf for a rainy day.
Are the pcm's like the bcm where you can not use them in another car?

it can be done, and people have done it. I'm unsure of whats involved, but a reputable tuner should be able to handle it.

Some of the shops that sell new PCM's also include a vin flash with the purchase. You can have more than one pcm assigned to the car and do a swap.

I thought if you had a 2006 Z06 you could just flash back to stock?

True! Just need the software/hardware to exchange tunes.

And the purpose of this is to do what? Maybe cheat the dealer and GM if you pop something??

Nice, real NICE!

Either way you have the same issue as reflashing the stock ECU back to stock. You won't have the readiness codes set.

In the case of a major engine failure the issue with swapping PCMs is the stock replacement unit will not have any codes stored for the failure. When my engine dropped a valve head the PCM had a code for a manifold pressure error. RPMs and MPH were recorded. If you come in with an engine that has been ventilated there probably should be some codes. If there are none that would surely raise suspicions.

OP:
I think if you have a tune installed just make dang sure it's a good one. GM has demonstrated that they will honor warranty coverage and replace failed LS7 as long as the tune does NOT contribute to failure.

Forum member 'TrooperDLA' is getting his LS7 replaced under warranty and his 'Z WAS TUNED. They looked at codes and decided his failure was NOT attributed to tune, so he's getting a new engine.

That proves that GM will honor warranties as long as your mods are done 'right'.

I don't know if this was directed at me, but I mistakenly had the skip shift tuned out. Now you tell me how that is going to destroy my engine? But it could be used to void a warranty. So I would naturally do everything I can to circumvent that potential issue.

The guy asked a questions and got an answer. No reason for em to be judge and jury.

I had an extra ecm and never used it but I had it. Don't think that made me guilty of anything accept wasting money.

Maybe guy wants to send his extra ecm out for a tune but doesn't want to have his car off the road while waiting for the turn-around.

Sorry but the CF has just become a super critical place anymore. Live and let live.

True! Sad but true. No one wants to be cheated but it is "OK" to cheat the other guy!

No, it was not directed at you. However, GM did not MISTAKENLY do the tuning! Personally responsiility is just gone I guess??

It would be refreshing to get a specific answer to a question rather than a debate on the ethics of what the OP is asking.

It's more likely that GM saw they were in a no-win position with TrooperDLA's car. He bought the car as certified and after the motor popped, the tune was discovered.

I don't think his case sets any kind of precedence for someone that has their car tuned.
