[ZR1] Ticking noise in ZR1, help

"i bought a new 2010 ZR1 on 3/21/12. it never sold and i got a major discount and it only had 125 miles on it of which i put on 45 miles during 4 different test drives over the past 2 years. "
"once it hit 900 miles i noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine."
"it had been on the lot 640 days by the time i bought it "
" I can't imagine a 100k car having a normal tick. You can hear the ticking when the car is driving in any gear and you can hear it with the windows up or down in the cabin,"
Any feed back is greatly appreciated.
My feed back to you is to take your zr1 out and run the snot out of it. Drive it like you stole it.
Forget about burnishing the brakes.
You need to Burnish the supercharger.
You should do a least 100 consecutive 1st through 3rd gear pulls bouncing the car off the rev limiter in each gear each time.
With the engine at full throttle you should not hear the tick..
Enjoy the car. And turn the radio up when you are not at full throttle to drown out the tick.
My Z06 does not tick. If your interested I will take your ZR1 + 10k for my non-ticking Z06. I have title in hand am ready to trade.

For those with an LS7, we are used to the ticking from the lifters. I dont hear mine while driving but i do hear it at idle. My LS3 i dont recall hearing any ticking at all. I dont have a ZR1 but it does sound like a lifter or fuel injector. Remember you have a new car under warranty. Use it. Dont forget here in CA we have an excellent lemon law too if it continues to be a problem. Good luck, keep us informed.

Sounds like it could also be the SC drive isolator. It can be replaced with a solid isolator and that noise will go away. It is a light ticking sound at idle and sometimes gets louder with engine RPM, dependant on the SC load it is driving.
This has been a common issue on CTS-V's since 2009.

One thing you haven't mentioned is whether the ticking gets faster with increasing rpms. If it does, you could try revving the engine with the car sitting still. If the ticking increases with engine speed, you're closer to identifying the source of the ticking. If it doesn't increase with engine speed, check to see if the ticking increases with road speed. If it does, it's not the engine. Or maybe you already figured that out...

the ticking does increase/decrease with engine speed. i'm going to run it hard and then mix a 5 gallons of 100 pump octane (VP fuel station down the road) with 11 gallons of 91. The service manager of west coast corvette mentioned that CA is adding extra detergent to gas since it is summer and we have more tourists. maybe i did get a bad tank of hippie gas!

I can hear fast clicking but only in my garage due to sound reflection. I did not have it on my z06 but never really concerned about it. The sound would would best be described as a header leak but I think it's just noise from the motor.

I'm on my 3rd C6, my Coupe ticked, my Z06 ticked, and so does my current Vette. Don't worry about it, they all sound like sewing machines, turn up the stereo, and put some foot into it, you won't hear it anymore. Not to mention 5 year 100K warranty...

injectors really arent as noisey as they once were. judging by all the noises zo6 engines make and most turn out to be fine (mine included)...i know you have a zr1 but im thinking its probably fine. especially with the low miles. go listen to another one, make sure its totally warmed up and compare. i bet your ok. hope this help you sleep.
