08 Z06 my alternator blew up !
Had the car out the other night and my alternator blew up !
battery gauge was jumping from 11-15, lights were dimming and alternator was sparking ....
only 12k on the car... is this a sign of things to come? a weakpoint in the corvette?
or just a random thing?
the car is under warranty but eventually it will no longer be...

I think it was 08 that they switched to the new alternator with the clutch. In my 07 from sustained high revs or from when I hit the rev limiter at the track the internal fan expanded too much and hit the wire loom causing it to fail.

25k on my 08 and no issue with the alt. Random. Get a new one and forget about it.

38,000 miles and no alternator failure yet.
However I have had the steering rack replaced, the air conditioning compressor replaced, two drivers seat motors, camshaft, 16 lifters,
the radio with navigation unit, the clutches in the rear end. Consider yourself fortunate......

I'm sorry that you have had issues with your alternator. This situation is being documented. I hope everything is fixed under your warranty.

I took mine to Champion Chevrolet in Austin and they TOTALLY FLASHED MY PCM! Absolutely NO REASON to do that and of course they deny it. No sooner did I get to my street (on the way home from pickup) did the #7 piston crack/ blow whatever. REASON, I was running LEAN as a result of the PCM flash (verified by seeing 42 changes in my PCM from the beore and after). I'm still suffering from it and paying for it at MY EXPENSE.
DON'T TRUST ANY DEALER if you can do the part replacement yourself. I try to never let my Z out of my sight and if I do it's cause i totally trust them. Hard lesson learned... if you car is modd'ed NEVER go to the STEALERship.

If I were you, I'd get the alternator from GM via warranty but DON'T LET THEM TOUCH YOUR CAR.
