Default Advice on 2006-07 z06 purchase

Just sold my baby. 2002 Z06 430rwhp. Now im looking to go c6 baby. Want another yellow one. So my question is what problems should i look for and or fix when i get it. Like the c5's issues, oil sender, fuel senders, etcetc. Just want some advice. Also the first mod will be exhaust which ones sound mean i drove one today with a corsa wasnt impressed. I had borlas stingers with lg's no cats and it sounded like a beast thats what i want. Thanks.

My 2007 was a great car for 16k miles, only the shifter rattle was the only item needed fixed and of course the seat rocks a little. My 11 has not had an issue yet with 6k.

I went with LTs, orx, and modded stock exhaust. I would suggest this before you buy a aftermarket exhaust, I went through the ghl's and stingers before I settled on this. I did find the drone is alot different/worse in the c6 vs c5 as I had the same set up as you on my c5z and loved it.

What is the ORX? What did you do to mod exhaust?

I bought my 06Z in the summer of 09 with 3,600 miles. The car now has 25k miles. The only thing I've done is replace the battery, tires, and change the oil. the car has been flawless. It will be 3 years in June and I still love this car.

2007: the Brake Control Module needed replacement (under warranty). If you track your car with hoosiers, you'll need a larger oil tank. Other than that, no issues!

I purchased my 07Z new. Only issue was the L/Side catalytic convertor. Best streetable exhaust I've heard are BB bullets with the cans "gutted".

Watch out for early 07 rockers as they had issues keeping the bearings in place...My 07 has 18k miles w/ zero issues. You wont need a tune for an axleback(or modded stockers).

I too had a C5Z LT headers no cat and X Pipe and was surprised to find out just how different these two engines sound, you will find that the 427 LS7 has a much deeper throaty sound than the 5.7 LS6, It tends to drone to no end, after trying several exhausts I'm back to the stock exhaust with the mild to wild switch and that's with LG LT headers with X Pipe and no cats.
Good luck on your search, the C6Z is a great car, no where near as raw as the C5Z but boy does it have torque...

If you like an angry, American muscle car sound, the B&B Bullets sound great. I love them and don't find them to drone badly at all. (Many will disagree with me ) The best homework you can do is to get a GM (VIS) repair history on any car you are considering. I bought my 06 with 2,500 miles on it (now 11,000 miles) 1 1/2 years ago and it's been the best Corvette I ever owned.

Good luck

I've had my 06'Z for 2 1/2 yrs., still love it, no issues...knock wood ! There is an issue on the 06 of the roof de-laminating, mine was replaced before I bought the car.
Do a search there's tons of info out there about various yrs. You will find lots of posts about LS7 exhaust valves breaking & destroying the engine. Most of those seem to stem from modded motors & cars that are tracked or beaten......Lots of debates on this issue, makes people nervous about the LS7 !!
Good luck with your search.

I bought a used 07 2 years ago with 13k on it, I have about 21k on it so far, no problems, been a great car.

Looks at the stickys at the top, just like the C5 forum, you'll find lots of info a the top of the page.

Loud exhaust, I would do Bullets with headers..pretty much same phliosohpy as the C5

I bought my pristine 06Z 14 months ago with 16k miles on it. Its my daily driver that now has 30k miles. Tires, battery and oil changes. Love absolutely every second of it and so does my wife. It has a dynomax cat back on it and it drones a bit much for my liking but it does sound bad ***. I put a set of generals on it in place of the GY run flats and that was an insane improvement in ride quality, road noise and tire wear. 1st corvette that I've owned too. Love it.

Here are a few of the issues, I would check before purchasing. 2006 rear wheel bolts need to be checked and torqued to 115 lb/ft, the air intake before the MAC is a EPA sticker that comes loose and causes problems-remove it. Make sure that the roof has been replace under warranty as the became loose, ask for the oil change records. Get underneath the car and lok for oil leaks. 95% can be corrected with a tighting of the bolts. If the rear end makes noise when doing a very slow turn, there is a warranty cure for it. While under the car check damage to the front dam.

Good luck
