Default 2012 ZR1 Centenial

Need some advice from the experts. I've always adored Corvettes and finally have an opportunity to indulge. My question is, I have a deposit on a 2012 Centennial edition ZR1 with the PDE package. Anything I should know before accepting, like this combo was a dumb decision?

if your not tracking the car, you don't need it. Also cup tires will not do very well in the rain.

I had heard that about the cup tires. I was also interested if the combo of ZR1 and centennial package was a bad choice

It would only be a bad choice if "you" don't like it...

I'm not a black car owner by choice but I think they're very nice to look at. Also I really don't care for the Centennial sticker package but that's just me, you're the one that needs to decide what's good for you.

If you can afford to purchase a ZR1, chances are good that you've made some sound decisions in your life thus far. Trust your gut. Go with what you like and enjoy that car! Congrats and post up pix when you get it.

If it tugs at you, get it.

If it doesn't, then get a different one.

Cup tires do OK in the rain if you drive sensibly.

A 2012 Cent ZR1 looks bad ***. I saw one back in September at the local dealer VIN 000007! The new suede and leather interior looks so good, like the carbon edition but with red stitching, also it has red calipers rather than blue ones.

I definitely liked the look of it compared with a 2009-2011 ZR1.

Get it! I love the Cent Edition Zr1 and Z06. They look so sick.

Thanks to all for the replies. I think my wallet was pushing on my remorse button especially when I originally set out to buy a black ZR1. However, in 2012, you can only get black with the centennial.

FWIW, the cup tires are also predicted to likely wear-out quickly on the street, much faster than the PS2 ZPs...

I have both sets of tires and wheels and the tread wear rating is 220 for the ps2 and 80 for the cup tire. As a point of reference we are comparing roughly 22,000 highway miles vs. 8,000 highway miles. Tire replacement is roughly the same at $2,500 a set

I have a 2010 black ZR1, and for all the time it spends in my garage, it never seems to be really "clean". I live near the Everglades and feel that the state of Florida should give me a "tax break" for all the bugs I kill with this car.

Anyways, I had a ride at my dealership the other day in a 2012 ZR1 in Cyber Gray. I love that color. It had the cup tires and when I asked whether it would be driveable in the torrential rain we have here in the summer I was told it would be no problem if it was driven in a safe manner. He also told me you couldn't expect to get more than 5000 miles to a set of those tires. They're really soft and have no extended life at all. And, where they're really sticky, they throw every small pebble and rock all around the wheel well.

I think unless you want to spend most of the time in "high performance" mode, you won't want cup tires.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Cyber grey is a great color - pics don't do it justice. And a lot easier to keep looking clean than black (altho bugs will cover any color), so OP you might consider that as an option.

Really seems strange they took away the pure black color, tho.

IIRC, I believe that Harlan Charles (Corvette Marketing Manager) announced at the C5/C6 Bash this past Spring that the carbon flash metallic was the only "black"
offered for 2012 in conjunction with the CE package...the BG plant was constrained to 10 colors...and that regular black would return for 2013...

Ah. That would be good on two counts. Pure black should be in the stable. And it would make the carbon flash metallic perhaps a one-year color - something special for the anniv.

I think he said that is why Chevy offered the carbon flash metallic, to have a "black" color choice on the palette...
The offering of Carlisle Blue for one yr (2012) also consumed BG's paint-shop color capacites...
