Jason,
Glad to hear you having good results with the shorai. Amazing power to weight ratio. By the way, any progress on new carbon fiber vavle covers?

As far as a firm time when they are going to be available I have nothing to report at this time.

Jason:
Do you have a picture of the Shorai battery installed? Since the battery is a lot smaller I was wondering what you did to tie it down in the compartment.

Now that is an ideal application for carbon fiber...eliminating some of the ugliest mass on the car. Much better than wasting it on dash trim.
I wonder what one of these wheels looks like when it eventually does fail...something like driving straight up a curb at 30 mph, etc.

I am not sure yet. It's really hard to tell with just the white primer background. At this point it looks too much like a slap on part rather than part of the car. I may end up painting over the ducts and just use our carbon ducts; the carbon bezel inserts are going to be used, but not shown here yet.

The Carbon Revolution Wheels ship to us on 7-15. The wheels are -52 lbs lighter than the OZ Ultraleggera Wheels with Run Flat Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, running the same PSCs (NRFs) with a 235 front and 345 rear.
Our car is really going to be a straight line king with 3.9 lbs/hp with our induction system, and 3.68lbs/hp with the ITB manifold. There is not going to be enough time to fabricate the airbox this year, so we may dyno it but not run it.
We would come in at 2746.5lbs with the ITB, but lose the AC to keep weight off the front. The ITB weighs 33lbs. and even with titanium bolts here and there, make it hard to swallow from a weight/power standpoint.
The engine will make over 750 hp though with this setup, so the ultimate weight/power ratio would be 3.686lbs/hp, which is lower than the McLaren F1.
Our intake system is the next best thing, with ram air, lightweight carbon fiber, excellent filtration at 99% efficiency, but striving for the ultimate lightweight Z06 is not easy or cheap, and may include sacrifices I am not willing to make. At around $170,000 invested so far, it is a far cry from the multi-million dollar Lambo Veneno platforms (4.2lbs/hp)http://www.lamborghini.com/en/models...neno/overview/, and with only 1 other car like ours (Jason's) it is time to call it a day. There are just a few other things in the works. They will be a surprise at the Track Attack. Possibly before.

Once you decide that you've taken it as far as you're going to, you should contact one (or more) of the major car magazines and let them do an in-depth piece on it. I bet they'd jump at the opportunity...

The green is just the primer. When done, it will look like the rest of our carbon reveal areas.
The process our painter uses clears everything, then colorsands the whole surface, then masks off the clear carbon areas and finally the JSB.
After that, color sanding and clear, then colorsanding and buff.
No palatable lines that way. Should be done tomorrow.
We are documenting some of the steps to show what can be done.
Our painters, TPS Paintworks in Menomonee Falls, WI can do your complete primer/clear areas and ship it ready for the final color match at your painters.
This will give you an idea of what we are accomplishing:
The old quarter panels are missing the continuation of the rear deck reveal. The new quarters will have this reveal continued.
Still coming up with a clear lens idea for the marker, with red LEDs and the carbon fiber background.
Next the dooors?
Pictures Saturday of the final look.

No wonder the paint job cost so damn much!
I would have just painted everything body color except the halo and roof, cleared everything and been done with it (lazy ).
Have you considered doing a carbon gas cover? That should be a cheap part to reproduce...

These ducts are about the most obvious CF reveal I think we can get away with, without the car starting to look gaudy.
Pictures of the quarters tonight. They will not be installed until tomorrow.
Our trailer is not ready, so it looks like I drive to Katech; the problem is our front fly paper tires and throwing little rocks at the new paint. Mylar cannot be applied to new clear coat. Ugh.

Only the doors and fascia remain SMC. The doors alone would save 20 lbs and fascias around 30.
For now, we are going for the 3.6lbs/hp goal. Our Katech trip this week will bring it close. The Carbon Revolution Wheels in July the goalpost.
