Default I hate my goodyear runcraps

Tried to have a little fun from a DIG with my Z today with a Subby WRX Wagon..but I learned that, amid all the excitement, with these conditions, its a no win situation...

goin at it against all wheel drive cars, especially a person who knows how to drive and launch it will give bad results for a rear wheel car from a dig..

Turning off traction control to try and get the maximum power to the wheels is a No, No, especially when you have crappy tires to begin with..

with 67 degrees for the temperature, and goodyear RUNCRAPS for tires..launching from first gear(even trying to modulate the GO pedal) is a no win situation, no matter how much Horspower your car has...It made it seemed like I was trying to do a damn burnout no matter how I tried to manipulate it...I HATE these tires...though they still have a lot of tire life in them..I do not want to waste the money in replacing them right now, but cannot wait to do so..my car is my daily driver, so the need for them for commuting is useful, but for situations like described above just plain SUCKS..

Im planning on Nitto NT05's for my next tire, Ill see how those go...for now, I just want to vent bcuz how can a company make such a tire for a 80k car and expect them to enjoy it..ok..im done

My NT05s allowed me to run away from a 400awhp evo from a dig in 65 degree weather and he was launching the crap out of it.

i am running non run flat general exclaim uhf tires and the car hooks up right from a dig.I ran 11.7 the first time i took it to the track with out even practicing my launches ,1.9 sixty foot times. With practice it will go 11.5 or better and they cost less than half the ****** goodyears.Get rid of those tires ,i rememnber my car would spin them in third gear and now no such problem.

Nitto NT 05's running here. Best tire for the money! I run the 285/335 combo. Better than spending $2,000 on a set of Michelin Pilots.

I got NT05's as well love them, stockers would spin at 75mph now I can dead hook from 50-55ish. Even below that its still controllable.

Plus they are so much quieter and ride alot better

How many miles do you have on your GYs? Don't judge them by the amount of tread they have left because mine had plenty of tread but they were shot. They spun under throttle like I was driving on ice and under very light throttle at 25 MPH in 2nd gear around a corner I'd have to countersteer because the car would try to swap ends on me. When they have no grip they are worthless/dangerous even if they have tread and it's worth the $$$ to get new tires.

Default Tire replacement

I'm also researching a viable solution to the stock tires. I've been reading and hearing a lot of positive reviews regarding the Potenza Pole Position tires, which are a direct replacement for our cars.

Tire pressure adjustment.
Condition of pavement.
Pavement temperature.
Age of rubber.
Suspension set up for drag racing.

You already know this...buy your Michelin Pilot Sports (or tires with a wear rating of 80) and call it a day.

Don't blame the tires because you don't know how to drive. The GY's work quite well at dragstip, autox and track. The just seem to wear out quickly.

brahmabull1126 I am with you. I have 7K on my OEM GY's and ZERO traction. With my new Super Bee and headers it is RIDICULOUS. Scary and dangerous.

I kind of have my mind set on the PS2's. 2K is obviously a little pricey, but if they last twice as long and actually GRIP I will be a happy driver.

The only genius on the forum that thinks the stock GYs are a good tire and also the Generals Exclaims.....

Ever stop to think that other drivers know how to squeeze the power out of the car and that's why the tires aren't sticky enough? Maybe you don't know how to drive.

The stock tires are not that bad, they are just meant to be used on hot temps. Assuming they are not old and brittle...

Want a stickier tire? Go with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, but be ready to replace them constantly with the way you drive...

There is a tradeoff involved with every tire out there, the stock tires are good, but not for your application.

By the way, i installed the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G2's from the 2012 Z06 and they are an improvement over the G1's...

Ditching the Runcraps was one of the best things I did on my Z. Once they get a few thousand miles on them they Suck. My handling and traction improved a lot when I ditched those shty tires.

I also have the NT05s, just put them on about a hundred miles ago. MUCH better than the set of worn GYs that were on the car when I bought it. I used to spin 2nd gear all day long.

Slightly off topic, the OP mentioned disabling traction control for 'maximum power'. Does traction control reduce power, even if there is no wheel spin or slip?

Sorry mister hardcore driver(LMAO)..maybe all my past rides didnt teach me well enough to drive a car..let alone my ZO6..coming from an S2000, and an E46 M3..I guess I have much to learn before learning how to drive in 65 degree weather and practice my launches at drag races and road races..must be nice where ur at where its humid and hot most of the time all year round..here in Cali..we get a mix of cold weather and must adjust accordingly..
