Default C6 ZO6 surging between 1500 and 2500 RPM

I recently sold my 2006 Z06 and bought an 2009 ZO6. I immediately noticed that under light load, the car has moderate to severe surging between 1500 and 2500 RPM. My dealer did some investigating and learned that Chevrolet modified the software in the 07, 08 and 09 models which caused the surging. The software was reprogrammed for 2010 and the surging was eliminated.

I contacted GM and requested that they prepare a software fix and re flash my computer. After several weeks of going back and forth with GM, they said the car was within design specs and refused to make a correction.

I believe if there are other owners of 07, 08 and 09 ZO6s who are upset with the surging and we combined forces, we could get Chevrolet to correct the software.

Honestly, I have been watching the Z06 forum for a few years now and have not read anything about this. There was a new code, but it was with the 2005 C6 coupe/vert because of a battery drain when parked. Owners were supposed to leave their Vette parked in reverse if they had a standard tranny. If the car sat long than 14 days or so it would drain the battery.

Otherwise, I have not heard of this issue with STOCK Z's. I have heard of with modified Z's however with agressive cams.

Alan, I am sorry to hear you are having this problem, but let me tell you, you can't have your old DSOM 2006 Z06 (Dubya) back, I am enjoying it too much!

Good luck on your fix for this problem.

Some tables have been added from the earlier C6 z06's. I have an 08 and it has always had a little surge at extremely light throttle but I lend that more to DFCO coming on and off in my situation.

never had an issue with my 07 z06. only thing about this i remember close to this is the LS3's adding a little rubber strip to the front of the stock air box to reduce MAF turbulence.

Check to make sure the lower radiator plastic shroud (underneath the air filter) is tight up against the front frame rail so that there is not an air gap between the shroud and front frame rail. Many years ago GM issued a technical service bulletin for surging and that was the first thing to check. Mine came from the factory without the push pins that are there to hold the shroud to frame rail and my car surged like crazy. I bought two push pins for a couple of bucks, crawled under the front of the car and installed the pins. Bingo, never surged again.

The only update I see for 2009 is for proper catalyst monitoring at idle.

Hi Alan,

Could you please send me a private message with your case number so I could look into the outcome of this?

Thanks,

Does your Z06 have the original air breather and the original Donaldson PowerCore filter element or an aftermarket unit or an aftermarket filter element? Does it have a popped shroud or Vette-Air scoop? The LS3/LS7 MAF does not like air turbulence which any mods to the intake system normally causes

Mine does it and is an 08. I was told by the local tuner who is one of the best in the world that it is a compromise in the tuning to meet epa needs etc. He said he can tune it out in 5 minutes...when my warranty is up in December I plan on letting him fix it. Until your warranty is up...nothing fixes it.
