Impressed...but not that impressed
Before I say anything I love my Z06...Every-time I drive it she puts a grin from ear to ear on my face.
Love the sound, the pull, the handling - everything!
BUT, I'm a Ford guy a heart.
So after beating myself up for a couple years I bit the bullet and bought a
2012 Shelby GT500.
The car is quite impressive. They have done a lot to the suspension, the horsepower is up to 550, it pulls hard and has a back seat for the kids as well.
Oh wait, I forgot to mention - I bought it for my wife. There is no way in hell I'd give up my Z for anything else!
And I'm sorry but the Z is much faster than a GT500.

Safety Car
They're too damned big. Park an original Mustang next to one of those behemoths and marvel at the difference.
Even the new Camaro is big. I was sitting next to one at a light the other day and the top of his rear fender was almost even with the TOP of my Z06!

Yeah, I came from an '03 Cobra, full suspension (KW Variant 3 coilovers, k-member and much much more,) pulley, tune, intake and exhaust, etc. I had to drive it to a car show last weekend and I was miserable now that I've spent some time in the Z. With all the work and money I have in that car it doesn't even compare to the Z in even one single way, comparatively the Z really is an amazing car.

Thanks for the compliments!
She does enjoy it and it does ride nice (for a sedan )
I didn't realize how big it was until I parked my Z next to it.
I told my wife we needed to slam it but I don't think she caught my drift.
More pics are on my photobucket page.

Great post, and clever how you present it.
Love the new Mustang GT 500s, and you and Mrs. have a great compliment of Modern day American supercars!
I also agree that the Mustang looks HUGE next to the Z!

the z may be faster but it looks like its about to get its a$$ kicked the way that stang is towering over it
def agree the z is better, but they are both great cars imo and worthy of owning

I think Mustangs are pretty cool, but usually keep an eye on what a car really is, with price/weight being a big factor. Ford's got the formula pretty good with the new 5.0 GT @ $28K, but already a bit on the porky side. Another $20K and 200 lbs riding on a fairly mudane chassis, really isn't my thing. No intention of cutting into anything, just not seeing much in the Shelby.

The Z06 looks faster to me the way it hugs the ground. Both are 'pretty' to look at but the Vette looks faster to me.....I'm sure it is as well since the other needs to go on a diet.
These cars are not in the same class anyway....there is no comparrison.

Drifting
I've driven every model GT500 from 2007 to now. To me, they never feel like they're making the power that's advertised. I am impressed by the feel of the new 5.0 though. I feel Ford needs to separate that car from the GT a little more like Chevy does with the Corvette models. No harm meant to the OP. It's still one of the best cars for the money. I wish my wife had one.

Us too....
Funny you should post this...and a great job you did!
We, too, brought home an new baby this weekend, which is also the "WIFES car". After 2 Mommy vans and Pathfinder with 170K on the odo, she was ready for something completely different. After two days of just driving around LI (shopping), which included a speed run to NYC and back (wedding), we can say that we have the perfect foil for our Z; a 2011 335i drop top with the Sport option, 18" Potenza RFT's and 6 speed.
Great motor, great fit and finish, great audio, GREAT SEATS......
We have utilized our Z for grocery hauler (alot),track "touring", HPDE, and very long distance traveling and loved every minute of it, BUT there are times when we have wanted the "sport-mode", but with a wee bit more "comfort-mode". I think we may have found it in the Bimmer.
Any comments?
