Yeah, it says there are very few high mileage Z's out there as I have always noticed. I hate to say it as i have another new Z, but the LS7 has not been tested for longevity as most are low mileage. As we have seen tracked cars in stock form have issues. Big ones. Track use brings out the weakness' and the valve train seems to be one leading to catastrophic failure. GM has played the odds and the odds are most stay low mileage then the warranty expires. I took the extended warranty but after that my heads are coming off!

I am far off that mileage mark at 33k, but that is extremely impressive. In fact, I think any vette over 100k is astonishing.

Bought my Z new in 2010 and it has almost no miles (1,500 today) but after reading the threads about potential valve train wekanesses, I think, if I was someone who drove their Z hard or just drove it often, I would certainly not be changing my oil every 4-5K but probably more like no more than 3K, probably 2,500 miles between changes. I changed my oil with Mobil 1 5W-30 myself at 1,000 miles after breaking in the motor real easy for the first 500 miles and gradually increasing the revs to 5,500 until 1,000 miles and the oil change. I still have not revved the motor past 6,000 revs as of today. Zero oil consumption currently. I use a Mobil 1 filter and again, I think that I would hestitate to change the oil from Mobil 1 to some other brand simply due to warranty issues. I am being very conservative for the first few thousand miles-hopefully it will make the engine last longer otherwise! Just my 2 cents!
PS-I have heard of folks with new Z's that just hammer the car from the moment they drive it off the dealer's lot-I was never too impressed by that behavior and wonder about engine longevity with that technique!

07 41,000 miles.
Cam, header and tune since it had 5k miles on it.
Track a couple of times and at the drag strip a few times but always aggressive street driving all it's life.
Just starting to burn a little more oil.
Hell I'm still on the stock clutch which I can't believe!
Don't be afraid of purchasing a Z06. I don't care what performance car your looking to buy there are always a few stories of motors, trans or diff's etc. breaking.
Mobil 1 5 -30w
Life is to short...go for it.

Can you tell us a little about your driving habits? Do you warm up the engine or just jump in and go? Do you frequently go above 5k, or just kind of drive it like a car? I would think with that many miles, you drive it pretty much every day. Do you let it sit for more than a few days very often?

Well, as far as hammering it from "go". I'm a firm believer that an engine does get use to certain driving habits and if it's done from the start it gets use to it. Where as something that's babied and then sold or what ever and then driven hard has more a chance to break! just my .02ct

Tracked a few times, have video's, haven't missed our monthly mountain dessert run since I've bought the car in Feb 07. Just did one yesterday which included Messa Grande and Palomar, I have a Youtube on this one being uploaded. These runs last from 2 to 4 hours of which a high percentage of 2nd and 3rd gear miles in the mountains. See's 5K plus at least once a day. Use 5w30 Mobil One all the time and follow the DIC and change from between 10 and 20%. Dealer does all the service without an issue. Changed plugs at 94K, waste of money on that one. Changed Clutch at 100K, another waste of money, looked great. Didn’t change the clutch fluid, was changed at 100K and worked great through out it’s life, I know clutch dust the scourge of our time. Also, just get in an go and it does have a few days of down time parked at the airport when I'm on travel, 3 to 4 days average a couple times a month.

Just to be clear, I do not baby my Z but used a controlled break in procedure before I started to hammer it. I babied it for the first 500 miles and them progressively increased the rev's to the point where I am at now where I get on it. I was really easy on it for the first 500 miles which should not have the overly opposite effect later on-done this procedure on countless new engines for 30 years-never had a problem later in the engines life. Hope that clarifies!
