Default Adding NAV to a 2LZ Z06 without NAV

Just got my Z this week, and to my dismay it didnt have NAV but it was the 2LZ LMB so it wasnt that big a deal.
1) How hard is it to find a unit (the other cars i looked at the Z06 comes up when you turn it on.) I assume it will have to be out of a wrecked one.
2) How hard is it to do? I assume it plugs into the stock harness
3) What else is required? Bezel, is there upgraded stero for this?
4) Approx cost for a unit. If its 1500 then its not even worth trying. for 500 or so its worth contemplating.
5) Has anyone here done it and documented steps required?
6)Is it year specific? So do I need to look for a 07, or will 06-11 work?

Thanks again!

my guess is responses will come in as 'don't bother, factory nav sucks'. I have the same setup on my 08, thinking of going Kenwood. You can do a whole kenwood setup with harness, adaptor for steering controls etc for less than $1100 (6980 model)

I did this also on an 06 2lz. Easy to do just plug and play. You need a GPS antenna. Do a search and print out the directions for install.
The only thing that did not work was the Speed Volume control and the voice command (which work together). I'm going to take it apart and see if I can find the plug in that I missed.

I have installed 2 in in 2007 Z06 , If you have an 06 look for a unit from an 05 or 06 , They sell for cheaper as they don't have steering wheel controls ,
Here is how you install it

Good luck

For about the same price your can get aftermarket which is worlds better. The GM nav looks Atari grade....you might as well get a newer unit with better features then the old-style GM....imo.

most C6 owners are going the KW route

I've seen about 8 1LT/2LT cars out of the 45 HUD upgrades I've installed this year upgrade to KW

I would go aftermarket for sure, I've had 2 stock units and now a pioneer. My pioneer is 4 years old and blows the current GM unit away to this day. I have a '08 z06 2lz and steering wheel buttons are still used with after market unit. Only draw back being HUD integration but not a big deal for all the other added goodies gained.

I'd rather stick with a stock headunit if i were you, because i had 3 differents kenwood really high quality unit in my supra . Dnx 9140, dnx9280 and dnx 9960 those were the top of the line and every single one of them and issues. Like bogs freeze need frequent updates. I know garmin navi is 3 times better than gm but with stock navi from gm you have the peace of mind plus those are really hard to dialed in for the sound setup its a real pita.

get a Garmin. The GM NAV system is nothing to rave about and i would NEVER install in any car. Aftermarket units will most likely be a bear to install.

You've had some serious bad luck with Kenwood then because your experiences don't match mine or most others. I have the 9140 in my Sierra and the 9960 in my ZR1. Both are flawless.

The 9960 gets annoying if you enable the traffic updates; doing so automatically kicks in the context-sensitive advertisements (they gotta pay for that traffic data somehow). Since I don't care about traffic updates, and really, really hate the ads, I just disabled that part.

As far as the OP is concerned, I wouldn't spend $1 on the factory navigation system, let alone a few hundred dollars. Just get a standard double-din aftermarket and call it a day. You'll get a substantially better entertainment system and a better navigation system.

IF someone wanted to go oem, will a newer one fit an older car, i.e., 2010/11 Nav into an '08 ?? Anyone know?

I happen to have a brand new 2011 Z06 with a NAV that I'm putting a Kenwood into it. If you want the NAV unit PM me we can work something out.

Bluetooth is part of the car (OnStar specifically), it's not part of the Navigation head unit. That's one of N mistakes made with regards to the system as a whole; the BT should be part of the Nav.

Thanks for info ,I didn't know that . I know the 06 and 07 are the same ,Some have posted here that a 10 or 11 will fit an 07 . I haven't tried that conversion and to spent 500, or so is a hard way to find out if it will work , So I have someone that has tried it will chime in .

Here is what I was looking for,
FYI, my buddies 2010 Nav unit fits (and works) in my 2007 c6z. This also requires you to have the bose system.
You will also need to have the unit unlocked with a tech II programmer from the dealer.

great. Just need to decide if worth it, seems those for sale (newer ones) want alot of $$ ( $1000- $1200) , that plus maybe the cost of the CD's, plus the dealer cost.....is it worth it or just go Kenwood. Thinking..........
