New Invos on the rear - handling problems
Yesterday afternoon I had new Invos installed on the rear to replace the bald GY runflats. All seemed well until I hit the highway and noticed that the car now follows every rut, joint and bump in the road requiring constant input to keep straight. Even 50mph on smoothish roads is a handful. Under power it is also "darty", unpredictable and borderline dangerous. The car was recently aligned to OE specs and it handled fine before the new tires.
I did keep the front GY Runflats since they were recently replaced (previous owner) and have a decent amount of tread left. Could this problem be because of the runflat/non-runflat mix?
I've mixed different brands on other cars (front/rear only - including Vettes) with no ill effects but I've never had runflats before this car.
Thanks!

Other than traction issues in cold weather - under 60 degrees, I am satisfied with the stock gy run flats as an all around tire.

Well my Invos are back ordered 3 weeks, but I'll let ya know what happens when I put mine on. I'm doing the same thing. Replacing rears first and a month later was going to replace fronts....

I've never heard that kind of feedback on Invo's... in fact what you described about your Invo's was EXACTLY how my stock OEM runflats felt, and that is with Runflats front and back.
I'd be willing to bet money your experiencing this because you have different tires on the back and front.
Different Tread pattern
Run Flat combined with non-runflat
Different compound material in both tires
The profiles are different for both sets of tires as well. Ditch the front runflats and Run Invos all around. BTW what PSI are you running front and back?
Not a good idea to run 2 different sets of tires, especially on a high performance car.

At the moment I'm running ~28psi front and ~31psi rear cold. With the GYs I preferred 30/30 and I could feel when they were 2+psi off. I should redo the pressures to see what happens.
The different tread pattern and compounds never seemed to be an issue on other Vettes as long as the tires were the same class - all-season, summer, winter, etc. I'm not talking about pushing the envelope, only low speed cruising. I can see how runflats would be a significant difference, though.
I guess I'll play with the pressures a little bit and if that doesn't fix it then I'll order a set for the front. Too bad I may have to throw away a few thousand miles of tread, though.

Change to Invos up front and sell the GYs. Better eat a couple of bucks than end up in the wall.

Never a good idea to mix tire types. I've had Invos all around for almost two years now, and never had a problem. My Goodyear fronts still had some tread left, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

I ordered a set of fronts this morning from Discount Tire Direct so I should have them by next week.
It looks like my fronts are down to the bars in the center so they are shot anyway. I should have reached in a little farther when I checked them earlier - could have saved myself a little dough doing them all at once. Oh well.
Thanks for the info everyone!

I have Invo's all around and I have way less issues with trammeling than the GY runflats. They are also very good in the rain on the street - no hydroplaning. I don't recommend using them on the track for a rain tire though; I was doing 360's at LS earlier in the year.

20K is a stretch. I am at 16K and the rears are about done. I can maybe get another 1K out of the rears, but only if I take it easy on them. Fronts are probably good for another 5K at least.

I had the same set up you did for about 1000 miles. I replaced my rears with invos due to the run flats were wore out. Ran the stock runflats on the front. I kinda noticed the same thing you did, but the roads I drove weren't cupped all that bad. Finally had the Z up on a lift one day and saw the inside edge of the front fun flats had steel belts showing thru... When you looked the fronts from the outside of the car they looked fine, and seemingly had alot tread left. So now I have all set of invos all the way around.

I got 17k on my Invos before I switched to the cup tires and they weren't worn out yet.

Update
I had the new fronts installed last week and the handling is back to normal again. I just did a 1200 mile trip and they were smooth and little quieter than the old Goodyears. The overall grip is better as long as it is warm outside.
Thanks, all!
