[Z06] C6 Z safety ratings

C6 Z safety ratings
Hey all,
Might catch some flak for this, but the other day the GF was asking about the safety ratings on the C6 Z06. I can't say I blame her, as both her parents work/worked in Public Safety, and I currently work in public safety.
I couldn't find much on the web other than "not rated" but I figure someone must have put a dummy or two in one of these.
Any better places to look?

look at the crashed ones at the NCM..I have never seen a NHTSA safety rating for the C5 or C6

I recall seeing somewhere that the C6 corvette actually performed quite well in crash testing.

I have no concrete figures but I was on scene 4 years ago, involving a single car crash involved in a police chase. The involved vehicle was a C6 coupe traveling at an estimated 100+ mph. It lost control, hit the guard rail caught fire and looked like a puddle of guew by the time we got there.

Wasn't there a post on here a while back where a black Z06 was broad sided at an intersection by a bread truck doing about 50 mph and the owner walked away? The post had pictures of the car after the accident. I know this is not actual crash test data, but I was amazed at how well the car actually stayed together.

I have not found any crash data but I know my insurance is relatively cheap considering what the car is capable of. This could be due to the fact that most Z owners are older and are in the position to drop 65-70k on a car. It may also be due to the fact that the Z is very safe BEFORE an accident. Active handling, traction control, ABS, excellent brakes for the street etc...
As far as crash testing and how it would hold up in a wreck at 40,50,60,70 mph, well I don't know if anyone knows for sure.

from what i have heard the vast majority of crashes involving corvettes especially frontal crashes the other vehicle usually ends up going over the top of the corvette because they are so low to the ground.
in that respect i would say they arent as safe as other cars and you definitly wouldnt want to get hit head on by a truck.

I suspect they do very well. The frame is strong and when they were developing the C5 they initially had to weaken the substructure since it was too strong when they tested it in a side impact crash (from All Corvettes are Red). These babies are tough and hold up much better than metal cars in a lot of crashes.
As for fire it will melt but I wouldn't want to be in one of the burned out metal hulks either.

I would think they do very well just from what I've seen posted here.

The NHTSA did do a crash test on the 2005 C6 and it appeared to hold up well. The NHTSA has not, to my knowledge, ever released any warnings or negative information regarding the crash worthiness of the Corvette. Click on the video link at the below site to see the test.
