I did it so I could get more tables for tweaking the O2 sensors, but it does have other benefits as well. (you will need to download the beta HPT).

from what I can recall......
This is the same discussion as before in trying to get the new ecm capability of larger injector tables and such for an older car (in my case an 08) to avoid scaling and loosing adjustability with larger injectors to run 1000+ whp with e85. I realize people have made it work with scaled tables but was trying to avoid that if possible and going aftermarket ecm is not worth it to me. I have heard that you can repin the harness to support a newer ecm.
I have not made this swap yet here and I can only imagine that will will present other unexpected issues you might not expect.
In principal it should work, but different years broadcast different can messages so somewhere I would expect a problem to pop
up but I'd be very interested in knowing how this all unfolds it you decide to try.
Keep me posted.

I know this is a VERY old thread, but I am potentially looking at a ECM replacement. What's the current path people take? I was going to talk to 0Chuck_CoW but he hasn't been online since 2020.

You can buy a used ECM from eBay. They will reprogram it to the correct operating software once you give them your VIN. Once you install it a couple of factory relearns will need to be performed. A scan tool will be needed unfortunately. Hopefully you can find someone in your area to help with that.

Are there any preferred vendors on Ebay? There's lots of junk I want to avoid.

I have used and recommend SpareECM on EBay. A code reader will not work. It must be a more sophisticated Scan tool. Possibly someone reading this who lives in that area can assist you.

Your car came with a ECM #12597121. These were also used in many other GM vehicles around that time so should be fairly easy to find.
Scan tool is needed for a Crankshaft Relearn. If you are doing a crankshaft relearn with a scan tool then you might as well do the anti theft relearn too.
