[Z06] busted by laser...

Le Mans Master
that is untrue, ive been behind several cars with LED tails and no issues.
i have had false alerts while going through the shadows of trees of fence lines where passing shadows causes a light pulsing effect across my sensor. however despite the false warning (which is RARE) does it hurt to slow down anyway?

I wasnt born yesterday and I am not a liar. I wouldnt post something if it was just something I heard... I have seen it happen many times!!!!

well my 5 year ticket free run thanks to my trusty V1 came to an end yesterday. motorcycle cop hiding on an on ramp behind some bushes zapped me w laser, V1 went crazy and i immediately tapped the brakes, but too late. laser is becoming more and more common in Dallas it seems.
time to supplement the V1 with laser jamming, what is currently the best device to use? im looking for something stealth. what are you guys using?

Laser False Alarms
Directly from the Valentine One web site:
Laser False Alarms
http://www.valentine1.com/v1info/findinglasertraps.asp
1. Red neon, from stores and occasionally from brake lights of other cars (example: Chevy TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Olds Bravada and Buick Rainier), can imitate the characteristics of speed laser.
Solution: Move away from source.
2. The electrical systems of some cars generate electromagnetic interferences, triggering laser alerts.
How to test: Try V1 in a different car.
Possible solution: Try relocating detector within the interfering car; also, your dealer may have a factory fix.
3. Adaptive cruise control systems using laser may cause laser alerts.
Solution: Switch to normal cruise control when possible.

One more thing you guys may not realize as well.... Every new car with LED taillights will set off your Laser detector when they hit the brakes in front of you and are at just the right (wrong) angle.... even the laser distance monitoring systems on some of the high end cars will set it off too. Makes for a lot of false warnings... Nothing worse than a false Laser warning!!!

I have had mine go off 17 times in a row when following a bus with LED taillights.... Everytime it hit the brakes my V1laser went off.... Also has happened to me when behind a A8.... There was also an article about some new cars going to laser for distance warning anyhow it might effect laser detectors.
from LED's period!

Why am I getting laser alarms when I follow some cars?
- J.J., Michigan
Red neon is occasionally used for the CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Lamp) on new cars. We know of these models: GM Trailblazer and Envoy, the Lincoln Mk VIII and the latest BMW 3-series convertible.
These lights use a neon-plasma light source. The red lens allows red visible light to pass, and also invisible energy near infrared. The source is powered by a pulsating voltage on a frequency that happens to be similar to the repetition rate of legitimate laser-gun pulse trains. In other words, the CHMSLs have an invisible energy leakage that’s nearly identical to the beam used by traffic laser. If we suppress the interference, we’re likely to damage laser sensitivity.

I like to drive me car as "spirited" as the next guy here...but playing devlis advocate , from the judge's point of view, or LEO point of view, a Laser Jamming device interfers or prevents a LEO from doing his job to catch people breaking the law speeding (which we all know is dangerous)
A detector is one thing, that simply alerts the driver and does not interfere with the LEO.
I would think that would be illegal.

Interesting. I have not had the chance to research this in other states, or in IL where I live, but I would think they would be illegal in most places.

They are not marketed as jamming tools.
And they truly are parking aids (they also so happen to jam laser guns weird)....
Laser is only light and it is not illegal under any federal law to have a device that blocks/interferes light.
Radar Jamming on the other hand IS ILLEGAL and will land you in trouble with FAA.

Good info in this thread...The only thing I am wondering is, what happens when you are speeding and the police know it? Is there an excessive speed or some sort of endangerment ticket that they can tag you with if they don't clock the exact mph? I'm sure they would still pursue or at least from my experiences...
