how do u crank the car and not start it
i want to prime the oil. i havent started the car in 2 months or so. i just want to get the oil flowing before i fire it up. is there a fuse or something to pull to turn the motor over without actually starting it. thanks in advance.

When i put a new motor in my last car all i did was pull the fuel pump fuse and crank away until i was satisfied that i had adequately pre-oiled the motor.
So my vote goes to pulling the fuel pump fuse.

Vettes where I live are stored 5 months per year. We just turn the key and start them. Haven't seen anyone have a problem. I've been doing that with my cars for 30 years.

Hold the throttle to the floor before you push the button and hold it. The engine will crank but it won't inject fuel into the engine. That should do the trick for you.

im pretty sure the synthetic oil is very sticky and doesnt flow away from oiled parts. Being so its ok to crank it and start it up. I recall when it first came out and this was a selling point on the commercials on TV. It also flows when its extremly cold.

In this situation I would prime the motor first, just my opinion though

Just crank the motor and start it, its the same like pulling the fuse and trying to start it or doing anything to avoid it from starting because the motor still crank with the starter power which moves all the internal parts just like if it was started.
Anotherthing is a starter was not designed to crank for long, it will most likely hurt the starter and just when you're out with the wife the starter fails.
The only thing is don't accelerate the car until it run for a while and atleast warm up.

I was going to do something similar after a two month layup, but decided to just crank her up. The car fired instantly and idled smooth with no "lack of oil" noises at all. No tapping, ticking, etc. I think you'll be fine. By the way,, it's like getting the car new all over again when you haven't used it for a while. Only good part about the winter!

I dont think you would be able to crank it fast enough by hand to pre-oil the engine like he is wanting to do.

If the motor has oil in it and has ran, there is no need to prime it. Your Z06 with its dry sump system has oil in the tank which has a constant head on the oil pump feed. The moment it starts its pumping oil, not to mention that the main oil galley is likely still full of oil. I have had engines pulled from cars on engine stands for weeks and when they are pulled apart they still make a mess because its still got oil sitting in the main line and its main oil galley.

I've seen the coil pack harnesses unplugged until the tech was satisfied...
just my observation.
I guess maybe the fuel system still has a little pressure in it and you could get a very brief poor start out of it. however, for sitting that long.. who knows.
