I leased a WRX STI. So far its a great little vechicle with great handling.
Surprised on the boost in SPORT + mode.
Ill miss my Z but the STI will do just fine untilll a ZR1.

Sorry to hear you sold the Z.....I know you were looking to sell it. Enjoy the STI!! I test drove one last year and was considering one as a DD... cool car for sure! Ended up going more practical (Element) when I realized we were having a Baby.... It has work out great, but the Element is a real snoozer to drive around...... good thing I still have the Z too....
Good luck!!!

I had a sti for about a year until I got sick of all the neons and dsm cars hitting their blow off valve next to me. Car was a dyno tuned stage 2 car. I ended up selling it and buying a bmw 135i for the sleeper appeal..funny thing is with just a tune on the beamer I could beat up my sti with full bolt ons and tune. I did enjoy the sti though just not the attention!

The new STI's are fun cars, I picked up an 09 WRX for my dd, not the same handling as the STI, but still impressive in a straight line. Mods are cheap too, $2k and the thing will run 4sec 0-60 and around 12.5 in the 1/4.

I'm not sure I would have bought one if I lived in Florida, but up here, with snow tires the awd is great.

The SRT4's bug me less in the WRX (although the lack of wing makes it less noticeable than the STI) than they did with my old S4, and way less than they do with the Z06. I just do what I do, and don't let them bother me, if I bought a car based on how much or how little other cars on the road bugged me I would get a Camry.

Do a few mods to the STI and enjoy it even if it's a ricer, you will have two great cars when you get the ZR1.

Cannot say I blame you.... I've had to reconsider the Z06 a few times these holiday's. I agree that for NOW, it's ok to not have a Z06 since you'll be able to pick one up at a great price when ready. Just went through autotrader today and say a few @ 46K-50K, all 08+ with decent miles.

I'm actually trying to get my payoff refinanced so I can try and lower the monthly. No worries, you'll have that ZR1 soon enough!

I think you'll have a lot of fun in that STI. My DD for the last few years has been a 2002 WRX that I bought new and it's been pretty much flawless for 75K miles. I did add a Cobb tune a couple years ago that definitely perked it up. It probably doesn't matter as much where you live but the AWD can really come in handy. We had a hard freeze here last night and there was ice all over the place this morning. I wanted to see what the car could do on summer tires so I went to an empty parking lot that was iced over and could hardly get the tires to break loose- very impressive. How soon will that ZR1 be in your garage?

What kind of lease rate/payment were you able to get? How long is the lease?
Thanks,

I had an Evo for a couple of years 2 cars before my Z and it was one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. I have no doubt I will find myself owning a turbo, AWD car again at some point in the future.

I'm considering the STI along with a V8 Audi S4 and BMW 335xi as a a DD when I get transferred to the DC area, since I'll have to garage the C6Z for a few months at a time.

What's the reliability of the STI as opposed to the S4 and 335xi?
All seem to have good AWD systems and be fun to drive (though I've only driven the S4).

the reliability is excellent as long as you have a solid tune. I made 150+ pass's at the dragstrip on my oem longblock/drivetrain with zero problems, the majority over 500whp. STi's really wake up with minor upgrades, huge aftermarket, very fun car to drive. Most people have a hard time with the "boy racer" image that the STi can sometimes impose, but with simple changes they can look much different.

this was my before and after dyno chart from stock vs bolt-on turbo kit + vp import fuel.

nice ride. i had an Evo IX before this. I took it to 430 wheel(from 260 stock) with around $3k in parts and it was extremely reliable as well. 50+ passes at the track and it was going strong. The tranny was stock too. The Evo+Subaru scene was big in AZ. I don't miss it though. My Z is a beast.
