[Z06] HPDE tack wheels and tires
#22
I have done about 40 DE/track events of\ver the the last 10 years or so...I think Hoosier R6's in stock 18/19 configuration work exceptional.
The only issue is price.
but Hoosier is the only one with 18/19's
This is the set up I ran before Hoosier had 19's for the rear. I may be going back to this due to R6's cost of $1650/set vs. race scrubs (that are barely used and have more grip) that cost $80/tire.
This is correct...biggest advantage though is more tire availiblilty and cost.
I did the same thing, except I bought chrome for the street and made my OEM wheels for the track.

I'm just making the switch from my C5Z to my new C6Z and facing the track wheel / tire decisions.
I ran 17" CCWs with Kumhos on my C5Z, but obviously they won't work on the C6Z.
So I'm looking at best ideas that are the lowest cost for the C6Z? I'm an instructor in HPDE & need to put on tons of miles & laps, so need the lowest cost options to make it work.
I'm also thinking that I want BLACK track wheels for easier cleaning / appearance issues.

Tell them Gary from St. Louis told you about them.
The tires are mostly from practice sessions...I would guess they have about 80% tread left.
Typically, a tire manufacture is a sponsor and they provide the teams whatever they want...the teams can't sell or use the tires after the event.

good to hear 295's clear as it's either 295 or 265 fronts for the pirelli trofeo 60 treadwear tire that just came out. (rears are stock z06 size) Might be another good option for those who drive to the track vs trailering.

Decide whether you are going to drive to and from your HPDE and how far, if that's what you plan to do just get some stock size wheel like the LG world challenge you can run NT05 tires or R888 without any issues (TC AH) from what I've been told. I have CCW 18x13 rear 18x11 front the problem is you limit tires choices greatly due do the MPSC sizes no longer in production. I don't know of any street tire that's any good that you can put on them, however, if you're plan on using a R compound tire the Hoosiers are the hot setup for the CCWs.

2 18" rears $500
2 $80 18" scrubs $160
$660 is the better move.
new set of 18" scrubs F/R $360
New set of 18"/19" R6s $1400
long run...Lots of bucks saved.
The question is: Does the 19 rear handle better than the 18" rear? If so, does it handle $600 bucks (per rear set) better?

edit: I should apologize to the OP for jumping in on his thread, but I am in the same boat in looking for wheels.

HOW web site doesn't show any 18x13, max 18" width he has listed is 10.5".

If you buy the HOW rims in a the C5 Z06 style then you will need spacers up front the rimes set too close to the calipers for my comfort even the original speedlines will require spacers on a Z06. I still think for non- R compound driving to and from the track LG WC wheels are your best bet.

I just ran a DE last month with Kumho 710s all around on stock rims with good results - 285/30R18 (f) and 335/30R19 (r). This was my favorite tire on my C5Z with a great combination of stick + longevity. I'm now looking for some 18x11 front rims so I can try the 710 305/30R18s at the next event. Anybody tried to fit the C5Z rears on the front of the C6Z? Is the offset too far off?
