[Z06] RSD 5-Point Installed in my 06 Z *PICS*

I believe the bar is bent that much inward due to the opening clearance, (the door open and the bar open). I just installed a different setup in my Z. It has a little bend to open fully when the door is open. Take a picture of the door open with the bar open. There will be no clearence when both are open. Mine is alot closer to the door switch button. I will start a new thread later this week and show pictures of what my came out like. I am really happy with the way it came out. I don't think there is too much that can be improved with the RSD design. Nice install and seats Steve.

Not what I was expecting. Pm your email and I will send you some pictures of my install. Mine had to be bent to allow clearence when opening the door and bar. It is completely different clearence than yours.

Steve,
Thanks for the write up and pics. I understand somepeople look at these pictures and see a huge gap between the door and the bar. The picture You sent to me shows about 1 3/4" between the bar and the door release button.
When I look at the tape measure and then at my thumb, I know the gap could be less, but I also realize that too little space could become a safety issue. That is the reason for the bend. When I sit in the C6's with our roll bar, i have good room to function still. I am
5'11" and 230lbs. Before anyone gives this product the thumbs down, please try one on.
Thanks again,
Steve@RSD

I appreciate what you are trying to do with allowing room for someones thumb to open the door, but here are a couple thoughts: 1)there is a door release on the floor.2) It looks like the mounting point for the door bar on the main hoop of the roll bar behind the seats could be moved down a inch or two, which would make the angle of the door bar less extreme and then be below the door switch. 3) I would not be willing to sacrifice structural integrity (especially in the event of a side impact) of my roll bar just so it clears the door button. This part of your design seems much more form than function. It will fit in fast street cars with full interior, but will it perform in a crash?

If I were going to do a door impact crash bar...
I would remove the door card. Or modify it so only the card remained but remove the door pull part (the part that all the switches and the grab bar are in).
Relocate the switches, to the console.
Bow the door bar OUTWARD as much as possible. The outward bow will gain the most structural strengenth possible from a side impact.
Pad the bar with high density roll bar padding.

Here is the new and Improved Door Bar for the C6's. We took half the bend out and it goes around the door panel nicely.
Thanks to Steve for giving us another chance to get it right for him.

Looks much better that way. It's nice that you guys listen to customers and improve. That means alot to most, Not talking to a brick wall.

That is awesome that you guys were willing and able to fix an issue. This is my first time coming back to this thread since the original posting, and it definitely created some doubts in my head about whether this was the bar for me. After seeing the new fit and finish though along with your willingness to listen and adapt, I will definitely be placing an order for one of these bars before next Spring when the season starts over.

***UPDATE***
So I sent my old door bar back to Steve and he sent me back the new one, including a very handy storage bag for the bar at no charge, THANKS Steve!
After some tweaking the bar fit GREAT! Exactly how I was hoping it too. No issues what so ever with the new bar as far as clearance goes. I'm very happy with the way Steve took care of this issue .
Here's the pics .
