Default ZR1 splitter and side skirt package "best package?"

Can we get some feedback from Z06 owners who have added a ZR1 splitter and side skirt package to their cars. The best I can tell is there are three options right now:

1. Factory carbon fiber parts (seems like an expensive option but maybe worth it for fit/finish quality, OEM factor?)

2. Apsis (have carbon fiber, matt black, for factory color painted, and seem to have a good price)

3. Katech (have carbon fiber or gloss black gelcoat, not sure what their pricing is)

Soooooo.....here are my questions:

Anyone regret adding this aero package to their Z06?

I plan on tracking my car on road course at speeds in excess of 150+ mph, so which one will hold up best, what about the reinforcement kit from GM?

Has anyone had splitters or side skirts rip off at high speeds or on speed bumps, etc?

What about personal style? Flat black, carbon fiber, or painted to match?

Durabilty from wear and tear? I was wondering if a flat black would look OK since it could be "touched up" with a can of paint from road rash, stone chips, going off track, etc?

Is the reinforcemnt kit from GM definitely needed? (from what I understand it requires bumper removal)

Which one requires the least modification to the car as far as drill holes, etc?

Also would like same kind of advice on the ZR1 rear spoiler, seems like Katech and Apsis make these as well (no extra holes like factory spoiler) but is quality fit and finish good?

As always, thanks for everyone's thoughts....

Ian

The front splitter is basicly bolt up except for 4 extra holes. I have had RPI painted and katech carbon fiber. Painted shows every little chip, where carbon fiber does not. The bumper brace does require bumper removal. But is not required at speeds under 80mph as I understand it. I had the splitter on my 06 with no brace and I have the brace for my 09.

The side skirts again show chips on the painted ones. The plastic mud gaurdes in the rear flaked the paint right off them, so if you go painted keep the rear brace black unpainted. You do have to watch your feet around them if you have big clumbse feet like me or you will be kicking them. The carbon fiber are great but carbon fiber does not take well to being bent up by a jack or so on.

Factory zr1 spioler requires you to drill 6 extra holes, so does every other zr1 rear spioler. I have had gm and one from rpi, the fit and finish was good.

personaly I would go with carbon fiber from kaytec and a painted rear spioler from gm.

Great feedback rovers2000, this is the kind of feedback I was looking for.

Does Katech use the GM front support and GM rear mud flap for the side skirts?

Do you know anyone who will pre-paint the GM factory rear ZR1 spoilers? I have only seen the GM one available in "primed" condition.

Seems like we need a group buy on carbon fiber front splitter & side skirts, factory color painted ZR1 spoiler and comes with GM splitter reinforcement and rear mud guards for side skirts....

There has to be lots of other people wanting this package other than me....

I wanted the side skirts until I found out you have to drill holes in the side of your car.

I'm going to look at a set tonight. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see them in person

Do you have to drill holes for the factory OEM side skirts?

i would get the black gel coat fiberglass side skirts and front splitter from katech if i had to do it all over again. i track my car and did not do any accidental lifting on the sided skirts and both are cracked where the rear flap attaches to them, they are still on the car good but not sure why both of them would crack there in the same spot when no pressure has been applied to them

the carbon stuff is too brittle

Do you mind telling us which brand carbon fiber you have? Katech, Rpi, Apsis, GM, other?

I am curious as to why no one makes the splitter and side skirts out of injected molded plastic similar to the factory Z06 spoiler and splash guards?

I looked at a new 2011 Z07 carbon edition at the dealer this week and the splitter, skirts and roof panel are gloss black not exposed carbon fiber from the factory.

would be nice but too much flex i am guessing

also i have (had) the katech front splitter i detroyed it 2 times, was able to repair the 1st time but 2nd time i went off at the track and it shattered all over.

i am now back to my apr front splitter which is fiberglass core/carbon overlay.

nothing wrong with the katech nor bashing the stuff but if you track hard and go off dont expect it to hold up to many off roading activites.

like i said i would buy the gel coat fiberglass stuff
