Every Z has HUD no matter what package. If this car has heated seats it's 2LZ if not it's a 1LZ.
And you're right about the 2nd half...no 3LZ in 07.
If the OP want's a better performing car as well as a more comfy DD or occasional driver, the Z has it over an 05 Viper in "every" aspect...

I was dropping my wife's car off for service yesterday when I was chatting with one of the sales guys who was telling me about a vette they took on trade. It's an 07 silver z06 with 1,632 miles. Yes that's the correct mileage. It has power everything, HUD, Nav but no sure 2lz or 3lz. Can anyone tell me how to figure that out?
Also they will give me 32k for my low mileage A6 06 vert and sell me the z for 46,100 (he told me that's what they paid but he he is a sales guy). I don't love the vert or especially the auto trans.
Thoughts on whether that is a good deal or not? Carfax is totally clean.
The other car they had was an 05 red viper with 4k miles on it for a grand more. Decisions, decisions.
Having a hard deciding what to do so I am open to opinions.

I ended up buying an 09 C6Z which was a 1LZ car. It had 3700 miles. Cost me 54K in May of this year.
If you like the vette, I would say that dealer is giving you a great opportunity to step up both on your trade in value as well as the purchase price on the Z. Just buy yourself the extended warranty or tell them to certify it so you get a decent warranty.
On the subject of the viper. I wanted one for a while. I still wouldn't mind one but I am not sure I could live with it as a daily driver like my Z. While my Z is not my only car, it is what I drive most of the time and its very comfortable and reasonably practicle. The vipers are nice and tons of power but the interior is not worthy of the performance. I think it lacks in all aspects of the interior. Personally I like the older GTS vipers. All said and done, it sounds like a good deal on the viper as well but if it were me, I would stick with the Z.

GM made the option groups in coupes/convertibles vs. Z06/ZR1 a little confusing. Option group 2LT roughly equals a 1LZ, and a 3LT roughly equals a 2LZ, and starting 2008 a 4LT roughly equals a 3LZ.
If it has heated seat switches on the side of the ash tray and the 1-2 memory switch on the door, it is a 2LZ. All Z06/ZR1 have the HUD.
Having said that, it sounds like a great deal.

Drive it! If you like it, gor for it!
I think I saw that one on Autotrader... looks nice, and I love the mileage.
$46K sounds like a pretty good deal to me with that low of mileage.
I just bought (yesterday) a 2008 Z with 13k miles (silver with comp grey wheels, nav, 2zl) for $48K. I wanted something with a little lower mileage, but I wanted silver with comp greys more. It was close to home too...
I had also almost bought an 06 with 1100 miles in Ohio - they were willing to do $45k on that.
I will say I don't know anything about your trade though - I've just never researched verts at all - so make sure they are fair on that, but the Z sounds like a good deal.

I have driven an 06Z and own an 05 Viper:
Nanny control? That's your right foot. The best investment to make with a Viper is to get a Quaife unit in the rear end. Skid control is then possible.
The Vette seats are more acommodating but don't hold you in place as well. Comfort will be better with more shoulder room, a little cooler (I think), and I believe a little quieter. You have cruise control which the Viper doesn't - long trips are harder without these. Better mpg. Viper has better steering and shifter feel. I like the clutch feel better in the Viper but the Vette has the shorter throw which is nice. Viper is also a lot more reliable - simpler car. The Vette will feel faster with its shorter gearing. If you are a big person, you will probably be happier in the Vette. Viper has a unique sound - you'll like it or hate it. It does sound really good above 2500 rpm.

arent the 2005 only verts? If so, I'd def rock the Z06 over an 05 vert. The verts just look lame IMO. They are very cool cars but the coupe is a must. The new ACR is a serious machine...save up for that if you want a viper!
If it means anything to you, I considered a viper too. I got a 2008 Z and this car is a monster! It is a blast to drive, it is economical for a car of this caliber, and the price is fair for a car that competes with exotics. Oh yeah, and as you probalby know, it responds well to mods. It may not be the eye catcher of the viper coupe but all in all, it's a great car. I am sure you would be happy with either
