Please explain bone stock? Stock I found them to be a little disengaged and boring, but with 550awhp it's a whole other world. The engine sings, shifts are lightning fast, and it hooks......
With that being said they are not worth 15-20k over a Z06 that's for sure.

I love GTR's, but I don't think these cars are direct competitors in the pocket book dept. You can get new or 10' Z06's for mid 60's and GTR's are mid 80's.

Not to mention the drivetrains/engines of them are nightmares to work on.
Still..... may be a DD car for me in a year or two when the prices mellow out.

Its NOT the new price of the GTR that is bad. Its the aftermarket and the replacement parts that will drain the wallet. Those parts are double the price of the Z06 parts and then some.

You could get a GTR to 10.60's@133+ for $1000 bucks in time they still cost 15-20k more then a Z06.

I was very close to buying one before I purchased the Z. I was really excited to drive it and it was fast. There were just a few things I didn't like about it.
When I got into the car I noticed how cramped the drivers side was. Maybe I needed to fiddle with the settings but everything was very compact and it seemed like a lot of components cramed into a small space. When I put my hands on the wheel, the gauges seemed so close to my hands. It was also strange getting used to the speedo needle pointing straight down when going 60mph.
So I put it in manual shift mode and I liked the quick acceleration and grip. The shifts were insanely fast but sometimes it didn't go into the gear I wanted.... was I driving it wrong? Especially when decelerating and attempting to downshift. It would have a long pause and downshift like the ecu was deciding when to.
The car just doesn't feel as raw as the Z. After driving the gtr I know I wouldn't get the same kind of enjoyment as I get now. It is a nice car and all of my previous cars have been nissans and hondas. I can't seem to keep a car longer than 2 years and I think the same would go for the gtr.
So price, looks, performance, manual gearbox, and the test drive all made me realize I made the right purchase.

I would describe the GTR as aesthetically challenged Great performance, but they really missed the styling mark IMO. I'll take the Z06 as the best combination of looks and performance. Besides, I'm a Corvette Guy

I think since you can't get the GTR with a real manual, sales are lost. More than one mag rag has commented about the car not giving the driver the correct gear all the time.

No manual transmission, no care. I'll take the Z06. Or an R34 V-Spec..

Maintenance on the GTR is ridiculously expensive:
$1500 brake job
$105/qt transmission fluid (replaced at 18,000 mile service for a total of $2,000)
if any of the tires need to be replaced, they all do, since the computer is so sensitive that it detects differences in tire circumference.
These are some of the items that kept me from buying the GTR

I had 2008 evolution MR with the the dual clutch transmission before i bought my 2009 z06. I took it to track days, the transmission would just over heat and put the car into limp mode after about 4-5 laps and after spending almost $3000 keep it cool and from slipping. I gave up,there is no fix for the transmission.( the same people that make aftermarket parts for the Evo transmissiom make them for GTR(SSP performance) I loved the awd and the transmission when you could keep it cool. The problem with the transmission is it uses the clutches as a torque converter and clutches don't do that well. They get hot and hotter untill you have to buy a new $22,000 tranmission..Just try to use the launch control 4 or 5 times at the dragstrip and see what happens to the GTR trans(Oh yah, they void the warranity if you use it!).
I wanted to buy a GTR, test drove one. The car felt very heavy and pushed, needed lots of work to be the car it should or could be. And I love AWD cars(I had (2) evolutions and a 2008 jeep srt8). But to buy a $85,000 car to only to drop it off and spend another $25,000 just to make it Ok is crazy.
But the Seats, brakes, stereo ,interior and backseat are way better than the corvette's!!

Much misinformation in this thread! Especially on the maintance costs. Wish I had time to elaborate. If the thread is still going tomorrow I'll post up my personal experience with owning both cars.
Different in many ways but similar in some.
2 great cars IMO and I really enjoy driving both.
