Million Dollar Questions for ZR1 owners
Hey guys and gals,
Did any of you get to test drive your ZR1 before purchasing?
Did the dealer require you to set up a deal sheet before he handed you the keys for the test drive?
If so, How MUCH of test drive did you actually get to put the the
car through?
How does a C5 owner step up to the plate and get one of these fantastic cars without robbing a bank?
Thanks guys

I test drove a ZR1 first. It was not the car I wanted either. I knew it would not be much of an issue.
This is my 7th Corvette in two years. And yes, I drove the car, however, I knew it was not the one I was going to buy, and I was very respectful of the new owners dream car. However, without the drive, I would have kept my 09 Z06.

My local Dealer/Sales person that sold me all of my Chevys let me drive one. (Hint the car sold me.) The owner would not make my deal so i went across town.

Nope, I had no need to. I had plenty of C6 experience from 3+ years of Z06 ownership. I had some factory supercharger goodness experience from a year of '09 CTS-V ownership. I pretty much expected the ZR1 to be a combination of the two, plus more oomph and better handling.
And that's precisely what it was.

Purchased without a test drive based upon car mag write ups. To be fair, I did not ask the dealer for a test drive and they did not offer. The car more than lives up to everything that I heard and read. In my 20's I had a couple of Porsches, a 914 and a 911, and then a string of 4 Datsun/Nissan Z cars. The ZR1 is in a different universe. Could not be happier.

As for trusting the write ups, I would agree.
On the other hand, just to hear the engine roar to life, mash the
gas pedal and feel the acceleration prior to buying seems like the icing on the cake....
Enjoy the ZR1....

Ordered mine before they were available. Picked it up at the Museum.
Trust me, you don't need to test drive. I would venture to gamble that you will be extremely pleased should you purchase one. I have owned many vettes including an '06 Z06 and this one in incredible. Not only that but it may be the last of a breed like the 60's muscle. Point blank, it's a factory race car.

My dealer offered me a test drive. I really didn't need one but he was gracious in his offer. We did a short drive and I signed on the dotted line. It was easy and owning this car is a treat.

Dealer offered a test drive when we looked at the car about 4 weeks before we finally bought it. It had 4 miles on it and I told him we didn't want to be responsible for any miles to the future owner.
We we went back to work out a deal they offered a test .... worked on the deal first then told them we would take it subject to a test ride(said if it had the "70-80 mph vibration" we wouldn't take it as GM doesn't know how to fix it). It was OK....end of story

My ZR1 was the first I had ever seen in person. I walked into the showroom, saw the car and at that moment I knew I would be driving it home. As long as the salemen didn't try to haggle the price and stuck to what we agreed with over the phone, that ZR1 was mine and there was no need for a test drive. After we did the paperwork I had to leave to go and get my bank to get a certified check... I came back to the car parked outside under a overhang waiting for me. I'll never forget starting the engine up for the first time! ZR1 is my first Vette and I really wish I could've gotten one sooner.

I too can remember the first time I started the engine on my C5. It was
an awesome experience one that I will remember for a lifetime.

Never thought to ask. In all honesty a lot of cars in this price range are purchased without driving, often not even seeing the car. I saw 2 Mercedes AMG being delivered and the buyers obviously had not seen them yet. I don't live in a big fancy, rich town so you don't see too many here, nonetheless sitting in a showroom waiting to be tested.
Anyhow, I had a friend with a Z06 and he loved it so much, followed by the reviews and info on the internet, so I was confident sight unseen. I always swore my second ride should always be a convertible so dropping my Viper RT\10 for a hard top car was the toughest choice for me as it was the first time my second ride was not a convertible. No regrets.

I did not drive the ZR1 before buying, but lots has changed in the last year. I am sure that there is more option to drive one now, but as far as I am concerned, there is no need to drive - you will not be disapointed (and I sure would not want to buy one that someone else had taken out for a test drive)
