600 Dollar License Fee for Z06 in California
For a car I drive only 1k miles per year? Is there a way to prorate this? Can I claim no operation for 6 months and then pay only three hundred.
Anyone know?

Move east. It is really the only option.

Just one that I can think of: Leave.
Seriously, I feel your pain but a whole coop of chickens are comin' home to roost for the Golden State, life for Golden Staters is going to get much-much tougher all-way-around.
Those with any semblance of means/dough have a big ol' target painted on thier possessions.
OTOH there's always the nice weather. (/sarc)

I have friends in California (one on this forum) so I don't want to seem insensitive, but anyone who lives there certainly should have accepted your fate long before this. There is a high price to be paid for the pursuit of the perfect world, and California seems to be hell bent on figuring out just how high of a price it would take to become the perfect world.

Can't make myself leave, it is so amazing and beautiful here in Santa Monica with my business and friends even if the politics of California do **** me off.

Jumped on my first chance to leave cali about 5 years ago. With the exception of food, everything's more expensive than the rest of the US. And you'd better be rich (work for the government/dmv?) if you plan on buying a house in orange county.
About 6 months after I moved out, I got a letter from the Cali DMV stating that if I didn't pay my car registration (which was then registered in Texas) that they'd seize my bank accounts. Man, I'm glad I'm gone.

Is the registration/ license fee based on the purchase price of the car ?? Does it go down on a yearly basis as the value declines ?? What would be the tag fees on a Ferrari 599 or the like ?? I know a lot of Californians used to try and register cars in Oregon when I lived there. Oregon has no sales tax and very low license and registration fees. What if you own property in Oregon or Nevada for example, can you license the car out of state ??
Many of my friends in Cali try to use dealer or manufacturer tags if they can get away with it. Also you guys have front and rear plates .....
I kind of forgot about the fees on top of fees. Florida is very liberal in this regard...also no state income tax here.

2. yes
3. When I can afford one, I'll let you know.
4. It's been done. (I think if you are employed in CA it should be licensed there.)
5. Front and rear yes/required. Most Corvettes, rear only. Our choice.
If I remember when they found out the state (CA) was broke, they doubled the license fees.

Why would you live here, own a Z06, and then drive it only 1K miles per year? Why have it at all? This is the part I don't get.
