However to reiterate, curb weight includes fuel. Where do you see GM specifying this as 1/2 a tank? Just curious... I see some dumb faq on their site saying "with fuel" which is far too vague to identify exactly what amount they are speaking of.
It should be accurate. GM uses 1/2 tank for all their Curb Weights.

Default Round two

We are about to begin Round Two. The Z07 Carbon Fiber hood will be onboard next month. We have access to two ZR1 hoods as well. Contact me by email if interested. We have a long road trip scheduled on the 13th of July.

The SBE85 Ultraleggera Z06 will be in the Katech Tent at Carlisle by the Sea.

Gotta love the look of this hood. Just need to find the best paint shop for matching paint. Opinions? Mid West only please.

Jim,
How much will you save with the hood? Any plans to direct mount it and throw away all the latches and hinges? Very interesting. Show and Tell at Carlisle should be way cool. Any thought to using a silicone adhesive on the CF112 between the bridge and filter instead of the hose clamp?

Jim's probably using some High Zoot Titanium clamps or something that NASA uses or something like that and the silicone probably weighs more!

Jim, whatever company that does your carbon fiber work should get Huge praise! It's just Beautiful!

I do not have the weight yet, but CF is about 60% the weight of the standard composite material used.

The latches and hinges may be looked into. Good idea.I have access to two ZR1 hoods as well. Below dealer pricing.

Jim, here's my vote. Find a good race car fabricator and he should be able to do a real nice mount with 6 Dzeus fasteners. Next, remove the internal bracing that contains the steel inserts for the hinges and latch clasps. Then pitch the clasps, latches, hinges, backing plates and gas struts along with all the bolts into the box labeled, "The guy who buys my car". Remember, the struts, hinges, bolts and steel backing plates are WAY up in the front of the car. Not only do you get the benefit of the car being lighter, it also transfers the front/rear weight bias a little more to the rear for a little more traction. Win, win! Oh, yea, and don't forget to weigh EVERYTHING!

Excellent Idea! I will look into this.

Has anyone ever weighed in the stock roof/halo vs. the ZR1 unit?

Is the Z07 hood basically a ZR1 hood without the window?

Correct. I am tempted to get the ZR1 hood so that the Katech paint matched FAST intake would be visible through the window, but the Z07 hood is one of a kind right now.

Anyone interested in a new painted black ZR1 hood, we have access to two at very good pricing.

email me.

Default 2850 lbs here we come!

The ultimate goal here is to hit 2850 lbs this year. We are now at 2957, and Stage II of the Ultraleggera Project is underway.

We pick up the new Z07 CARBON hood this week AND the CARBON roof at the same time.

The stock Z06 factory hood with insulator 26.8lbs, the CARBON Z07 hood 16.2lbs. We are considering racing fasteners vs. the stock fasteners. I already know that the shocks for the hood will not work properly since they are designed for 27lbs. vs. 16lbs.

I think an easy 15 to 16lbs can be shaved here.

The Z07 roof is around 4 lbs weight savings from what I hear. Both are factory primered, so when we get the two painted, we'll do the rear ZR1 spoiler at the same time.

We are considering making our own version of the Z07 hood in carbon fiber, that would have a functional heat vent or maybe a cowl induction vent. Not sure about the latter, since we do not want air going under the hood, but rather ventage out, but it would look cool.

The other possibility is to install the ZR1 hood, with the window revealing the Katech paint matched FAST intake. Again, the ZR1 hood is a cool CF hood, but just not my cup of honey with the view it produces.

Aw, c'mon man. Tell me you were kidding about the hose clamps. You were kidding, right? It's just not right to tease an addict.

Thanks,

Jordan is one of my customers. I don't like the looks of the original FAST intake, so I wouldn't want to show it off. The Katech version, however is to die for gorgeous:
