General Exclaim UHP Tires
Our Good Year runflats were badly worn due to an alignment problem, so it was time to replace them. Thought I would try the General Exclaim UHP's in stock sizes, as the price was extremely attractive at almost half the price of Michelins through TireRack.
A few shots may be of interest to other owners considering the same purchase.
Cross section comparison to the Good Years:
Overall Appearance:
Front:
Rear:
Back in the Barn:
Initial experience with these tires compared to the Good Years was very positive; vastly improved ride, much quieter in terms of road noise transmitted through the trunk, although a slight whine with the windows down, due to the agressive tread pattern. I have to believe the UHP's will prove superior in wet conditions.
From an appearance perspective, there is the illusion these tires are not as wide. The tread width measures out the same as the Good Years at about 11.5 inches. The difference in look comes from the rounded shoulder on the UHP's versus the square shoulder on the Good Years. Sidewalls look good.
There seems to be a seat of the pants performance gain which results from the roughly 2 pounds per tire weight savings with the UHP's. No doubt someone here can calculate the rotational mass difference which is not huge, but there is an improvement nonetheless.
Yet to be experienced is how the car behaves in hard cornering.
The landed cost was $1320 (CDN) delivered to Vancouver Island. This includes duty as these tires are manufactured in the Czech Republic.

I've made the switch to the General last year. Over all, I am very happy with it. I can assure you it beats a the GY in rain driving hands down just from the tread depth (comparing new to new) alone.
As far as the stock alignment, there is nothing wrong with it. Most of these cars were setup that way for optimal handling. I've made adjustment since the new set of tires were mounted and the tires (all 4) still looks brand new for over 6 mos now, can't say the same for the GY with it's original alignment specs.
And for handling goes, yes it's missing the quick snap initial turn in but I don't auto-x the car. Drag and street launch is better grip than the GY, it doesn't spin the tires in 3rd gear anymore. I believe the GY were a little stiff on side wall and does not flex hence hurting the launch.
For the price vs performance, you can't beat these tires with a stick. The best part is I don't risk damaging my chrome rims by taking to a shop to mount two new rear tires every six months.

The shoulder on the fronts and appearance of the front tires with the general look as wide or wider the GY run flats. the shoulder and the width of the rear appear narrower. probably not a enough difference to make a difference. the generals are the way i would go when replacing the run flat gys.
Great pics. thanks

Installed my General Exclaim UHP Yesterday
So far so good, very quiet and softer ride. The car seems to track 10 times better on rough roads, which is a problem this year caused by the rough winter we had.
I purchased the wheels from a shop off the beating path. They did a great job protecting the wheels. The tires were balanced mounted and the car aligned for just at $875.
My only concern is the tire pressure. Tire ask for 51lbs but Corvette wants 30lbs. I've been told that such low pressure will cause the tire to heat up.. which concerns me when I'm running through the mountain roads of NC. I also need purchase a plug kit, since these tires are not run flats.

I run 32-35 in my UHP's cold PSI of course. So far they have been excellent tires wet and dry.
Plug kit, compressor, needle nose pliers, cutters and big mutherf'n hammer ( because shoving those plugs in can be a bitch sometimes)

I have had the General's on for over a month now and I am very happy, I am going to the dragstrip tomorrow for the first time, Interested to see how they compare to the stock runflats.

[QUOTE=GaryZ06;1573713656]The 51 lbs is Max....you never run max.......I run what it says on my door jam.[/QUOTE
you know the guys at the tire shop said 51lbs but I see no where on the tire that says this. In fact it says the MAX should be 40 psi.. so please forget that last post.. I need to be a bit more careful when listing tire specs.. sorry.

It just goes to show you that just because you do a job doesn't mean you know what you are doing.
