Default What batteries are you guys (and gals) using?

My factory battery is acting a little anemic after three years and I'm looking to replace it. I'm finding almost nothing but the OEM to replace it. I saw where someone put an Optima Red Top in sideways but nothing else.

Any good tips?

Thanks!

why not just get another factory replacement? i have heard of people using the optima and also a mini racing battery in a holder so it doesn't slide around but again why not just stick with what the car already has?

How do you use your ride. If it's a DD you need a starting battery, I'd go with the Delco professional 75. Has the best warranty (50-month free replacement). If it's a setter, sits for 5-days or more without use, go with a deep cycle like the Optima Yellow Top. Go to http://www.marinebatteries.com/faq.html to find out more about the difference between Automotive starting duty bateries and deep cycle bateries (and when to choose one over the other.

The Braille 2317was suggested by their technician It weighs 17lbs with 1191 Amps. It has side and top posts. I used their mount and attached to the removable plastic plate under the stock battery. I increased the length of the leads of the Braille charger. Then ran them through the hole by the lamp over the license plate, in order to close the hatch while operating the charger.

OEM. So far as I can tell it's the only one that fits and hooks up to the vent system properly. Also, so far as I can tell, none of them consistently last any longer than the others. Just treat it like a consumable, like tires.

To those asking, "Why not OEM?" I would answer that I'm finding OEM Corvette batteries to be a bit short lasting. This is not the first OEM battery that I've had to replace "early."

I use the car as a daily driver. I like the idea of the Braille batteries to save a few pounds. I would probably get the 21lb to increase the power and decrease the potential hassle-factor of dealing with a less powerful battery. It would still be a significant weight loss.

If I were to get a pair of lightweight front rotors I'd shave a good deal of weight off the car and fairly equally.

I am glad to see someone using it without blowing up. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions.

OEM. I just started my car after 6 weeks... no problems, started right up. Mine is ~2.5 years old.

I was gone for two weeks over the holidays, so I've decided to put it on the trickle charger over the weekend and see if that improves it.

Maybe it just got a little low and my daily drive is too short to charge it back up really well.

If not, then I'll look into the 21 lb. Braille battery. I like the idea of dropping 15+ lbs and getting a new battery.

What does the OEM cost?

That doesn't seem to be available online. Since you can't order it online, AC Delco doesn't want to show you the price. So I guess you are at the mercy of the seller?

Thanks for all the replies!

Die Hard has a replacement battery which includes a vent connection and additional rubber tubing to hook up the vent. Only problem is that you will need to buy a universal adjustable top strap and tie rods maybe 1/2" longer than OEM to tie down this non-OEM battery. The OEM strap won't fit across this Die Hard size.

Gold72,

Which DieHard battery are you using? When I went to the Sears site this is what I got:

Shopping for: 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06; 3570-3597 lbs.; 105.7 in.

We're sorry, we currently do not have Batteries & Chargers online that fit your requirements.

You can: Contact a Sears Automotive Sales Representative for assistance - Find a Sears Auto Center, or check your vehicle/tire size information and try again.

OEM has been working fine for me. I have an '08 so the battery is only 1-1/2 years old, but the car regularly sits for 7-10 days without starting, and many times I start it just to move it out of the garage and then again to put it back in.... so far no problems.

Interstate..., nothing like needing a jump start in the middle of a Texas Land and Cattle Steakhouse parking lot on Valentines night dinner...! That was the last straw.

I see your problem for MY2007. I don't know why there would be a difference between batteries from MY2006 to MY2007.
