Be careful with that part number! I got those plugs off of 1 post I found. Turned out to be the wrong size. I then did some more searching and found out that it definitely was the wrong plug. I went to Autozone and found an aftermarket plug (with rubber gasket) for $6 (vs the $21 per plug for the wrong plug from GM)

OK, I have an '09 motor and tank in my '06, so the car is essentially the same as an '09 powerplant wise. It seems the oil pressure is a little higher now than with the old motor. I checked on the part numbers for the oil pump in both model years, and they are the same. So it reasons the oil pressure should be the same unless there is some change to the '09 block to cause the noticed difference. What is the difference between the UPF-48R and the PF-48 that is required for the '09 LS-7 motor (other than it's color and price )? It would seem at first blush that since both motors (the LS9 and LS7) are hand built in the same place that it is easier just install the same filter (?).

My June 08 built 09 Z06 came from the factory with a PF48 filter, as did all the ~20,000 LS7's built before it.

So with these findings in mind, there's no reason you can't use the PF-48 in any year Z...

To answer this question, according to some research that I've done recently, the PF-48 uses media that filters oil to 25 microns and the UPF-48R filters "down to" 8-10 microns and uses a heavier gauge outer shell to accommodate the ZR1's increased oil pressure from a higher volume oil pump. the Z's oil system remains the same except for a larger oil tank.
So with these findings in mind, there's no reason you can't use the PF-48 in any year Z...

It just occurred to me that GM is also likely trying to expand the market and application use for the UPF48R by now specifying that filter in the owner's manual for the LS7. By my choice, I use the UPF48R on my 06 LS7 now that it is available.
