Default Added cam. now driveability sucks. can this be fixed?

I have an 08 Z06 and recently had a Comp Cam, Kooks Headers and X-pipe, and a Halltech CAI installed with a custom tune. Now the car lunges a lot in the low gears at low speeds. In a parking lot I have to ride the clutch just to keep it from lunging profusely. I assume this is caused by the cam. Is this something that can be fixed by adjusting the tune? My tuner took 3 days to tune my car and I cant believe it is this bad. Is this typical of a cam?

A lot can be smoothed over in the tune. Depends on the size of the cam as to how much driveability you are able to retain.

I've got a smaller cam in mine, runs fantastic. No surging bucking or anything. What size cam did you put in there? A good tuner should be able to get that straightened out in 3 hours not 3 days.
I have 520 RWHP and she goes pretty good, and sounds friggin sweet.

You can't tune out cam overlap. You can minimize it by playing with timing in the areas of bucking (low rpm and low throttle) but it won't go away altogether.

It is a compromise! If you want the additional power you need the valve overlap at low RPM. Keep the RPM up and you will be "OK" or go to a smaller cam.

why a custom cam? were you talked into it? should have gone with some of the better/proven cams, like a stalker or torquer cam. Also, your tuner should have been able to tune your car in 1-2hrs tops, if he knows what he is doing. sorry to hear you are unhappy, good luck.

If u can get the car to Baton Rouge, La., and u have less than 20deg of overlap, it will take 30minutes. Dyno optional

DO you have the specs on the Cam, this will tell us if it overlap or the tuner, which I suspect is both.

I'd like to hear the specs... I used to have a mega cam in my last car that loved to buck in parking lots. Some of it was tuned out once I bought hptuners and did some research and tinkered around with timing. (added timing down low)

Without specs on cam, difficult to say . Some extreme large / radical cams DO REQUIRE lots of fine tuning , and eventhen still miss-behave. Please post cam specs !

My QM600 car will idle through a parking lot without my foot on the gas, and does it smooth. The vast majority of drivability can be cleaned up with the tune and making sure various tables mesh together properly. Remember... GM has THOUSANDS of man hours invested in making the STOCK car a perfectly smooth experience. Don't expect ANY tuner to make it perfect after only a couple days.

Sounds like you may have fallen victim to the typical internet BS of having the biggest cam possible is better. Without us knowing the specs, it is impossible to diagnose your problem.

What, I thought its was either 267/278 .700/.715 107-3 or bust?!!! (Not a real cam, I just pinned it together. you never know though.... someone might advertise a cam like this as having stock-like driveability!)

OP: we need more details about the build in order to help diagnosis the problem...
