Trade?
The wife and I have had a few conversations lately about letting the vette go (only for a while). She is in need of a larger vehicle to travel in so we are considering trading for a Suburban. Before I took it to the dealership I thought I would see what you guys thought with regards to recent experience trading these cars.
Mine is an 08 2LZ - NO TUNE - with 13,000 miles and spotless so the dealer wont have anything to nitpick. Any thoughts on what to expect or any suggestions?

I figured it might be difficult to get a reasonably fair trade-in amount but also thought it might be an advantage that I am also a buyer...
Anyone have knowledge of a recent experience or any other suggestions/thoughts?

Tough guess..........they can always make your trade price look better if they've got some room in the new vehicle but off the top of my head I would guess you could look for around 52 for a high and 47 for a low. And as others have said.....bring plenty of lube

Even the worst deal you can make selling the car yourself will be better than the wholesale value the dealer will give you. Work out the best deal to buy the Suburban, ask them how much they will give you in trade for the Z06 and go out and better that on Craigs List.

If you don't want to get screwed , this is probably your only way to go .
Dealers don't ever want to give you anywhere close to a fair deal in a trade .

The dealer doesn't have to find anything to nitpick about your car. It's just how they make money, aquire trade-ins for much cheaper than they sell them for. Dealers make very little off new car sales, it's all about the used market.

Agreed......smartest response in this thread. You will be able to find a relatively low mile 2-4 year old Suburban/Tahoe for what you would be taking a screwing for on the Vette......not to mention the initial first day depreciation of 10K on a new SUV.

No doubt the dealer will try to "get theirs". For some reason I couldn't get away from the thought I should be able to square up the deal by purchasing a vehicle they might not be selling very quickly right now.
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate the forum (and the humor).

Times have changed. A year and a half ago, I traded in my 06Z06 towards an 08Z06. They gave me 59k on trade and I had to pay 12k in difference, tax and fees included. I was extremely happy with that deal. If I would have had to sell it outright, I think at the time, I would have been able to get about the same, in the worst case scenario. The difference here is that in our state, you get a tax credit on your trade, so you ONLY have to pay taxes on the difference. That to me was worth about $ 4,500.

I might be able to help...last month I was entertaining the idea of trading my 08Z 1LZ for an 09...until they offered me 46k for my Z. My Z had 13k, and is spotless/perfect. I would expect 46k-47k on trade for your car.

Just find a suburban in good condition with 80,000+ miles. They last forever anyway, and you will get a heck of a lot better deal. I wouldnt even be scared to get one with 100,000 miles and then you can get one for really cheap.
