Default Earliest C6 Z06 - Could Have A Cool Thread Here!

Hi Guys,

Just wondering who on the Forum here has the earliest built C6 Z06? Mine was built in late August 2005 (VIN ends in 396), but I know that there are a fair number of Forum members with earlier builds. Curious to see who here has the earliest? I figure this could be a cool thread!

Also, who here has the earliest Canadian Z06?

Let's get this one going! Take care all, and happy and safe motoring!

I dont think the VIN tells you what number z06 it was. if I read the VIN number correstly it just states which number C6 it was that was built. The info I got from the NCM that for the model year 2006 34,021 corvettes were built of which 16,598 were Coupes,11,151 were Verts and 6,272 were Z06's for a total of 34,021.

Last five are the production sequence although as mentioned in an earlier post, the production sequence for the Z's were shared with the coupes and verts.

Ultimately, the lower the number, the earlier the build...

Precisely! Would be neat to see if anybody here has a Z06 with a VIN under 100!

FACT - After a handful of test builds, the factory produced ONLY Z06's until mid (late?) September, 2005. If you have a 2006 VIN with the last 5 digits of 00050 to 00700 (approximately), that will give you your relative position off the line. After that number, the VINS were shared by all C6 models since they were all being built at the same time.

I assume some member will have a VIN ending around 00150 and he (or she) will be the winner. Let the games begin (mine was built on August 30 so Im out of it) . . .

Allanlaw,

My Z06 was also completed on August 30 I believe. It is also Machine Silver (00396).

Hi, neighbor, you're within 8 numbers of mine, so our cars could see each other as they came around the bend on the line. They would have been fired up for the first time within the same hour . . .

Yours would have taken a train ride to get to Canada. All US deliveries were by trailer - Allied was the carrier and they went into bankrupcy while the first Z06's were moving around. Mine wound up at Roush in Livonia, Michigan for some type of retrofit, then back to Bowling Green, then finally out to me in Los Angeles on October 25th. Man, was I p*ssed at the delivery delay.

Now that is totally cool! Hey neighbour!

I noticed on my particular car, although it has the NAV, it did not come with the XM Satellite Radio. The build sheet has an R7K Equipment Adjustment - Satellite Radio not available. I thought that anomaly was kind of neat!

I do not have any of the docs on me, but I think it arrived at the dealership up here in Toronto some time around September 10, 2005.

That's about when mine SHOULD HAVE BEEN delivered in Los Angeles - and it would have been the first regular production C6Z delivered out here. Due to its twisted journey, another fellow I know got his (produced later) way before me and got the honor.

Not to sound like a tool, but do you know what kind of retrofit they did? Roush is performance parts oriented are they not? I also did not know they did any componentry for GMs? (Sorry for the ignorance here.) That sounds pretty cool though!

Good question - I never saw a definitive answer, but the speculation centered on a power steering hose or rear half-shaft. Roush was just used as a labor contractor since GM did not have the capacity at Bowling Green to do the retrofit on several hundred cars. The problem is that GM did not fully think through how delivery would take place AFTER the trip to Livonia in view of Allied's financial problems, hence the delay. The ultimate solution was to have empty Allied trailers stop at Livonia after they delivered other Corvettes and load up the ones that were there on the way back to Bowling Green. The lots at Bowling Green filled up with returning Z06's, which were then loaded with brand new ones on the outbound trailers for final delivery. As a result, cars built in August and October were going out to dealers at the same time. Ah, those were the days . . .

Interesting - I did not know that.

I picked mine up used just recently, but before I pulled the trigger, I was able to obtain all the GVIS docs. I noticed that during the PDI, the oil cooler line was replaced at the dealership. I guess since our cars were the earlier builds, a bunch of bugs still needed to be addressed????

As a side point, I suppose that given that Canadian cars were delivered by rail, any kind of similar retrofit as yours would have been done at a dealership????

I traded my 06 Z06 - that was vin # ending in 000155. And yes, the first few Z06s (built date June 2005 if I remember correctly) were numbered based on VIN. The first 200 were called "pilot cars". There were some slight differences on the front chin spoiler, the 1/2 gear synchro and a couple of other things...

Here are a couple of ol' threads about it. Mine was in fact build in June 2005 and it was # 155, one of a few reconditioned Pilot Cars ( #200 or younger).

Thanks Tailwag - will check these out.

I saw a previous post where I think it was Cooldawg had mentioned that he saw #50 for sale. Not sure if he picked it up though?
