GoPro Motorsport Hero Wide cameras are really cool, and is what I use.
I also use my iPhone 3Gs in a PDA holder to take dashcam video....it works great !!!

I use the go pro on snowmobiles and jet skis. Works great and the price is right - about $160

I just started using the GoPro on a suction cup high on the windshield, just to the right of the inside rearview mirror.
When I tried to use it on the harness bar or on the convertible waterfall, I got so much windshield glare that apparently the camera could not see anything in front of the windshield.

There are nice little cameras that record Full Video, Sound, GPS, braking, acceleraton, Speed, and G Force recording... complete vehicle monitoring system for under 400.00.

Cop claims your going 75 mph and you weren't? Claims you rolled through a stop sign and you swear you stopped? Well this little black box will prove whos telling the truth. This camera could pay for itself.

I use a Chase Cam. Works off of my cig lighter. Pricey, but just turn it on and the camera starts when the car reaches 5 mph and shuts off under that. Turn the power on and forget about it

I have a Go Pro I'd sell you if you're interested...pm me.

Some of the guy's at our track day event's use exterior suction cup mount's for small vid cam's from filmtools, and stay on at triple digit speed's, no problem. Parts Express carries a small helmet rim clamp on camera/SD DVR recorder for about $60 buck's. Also a sunglass cam for a bit more.

I'm very surprised that any track official would allow those without some sort of additional securing mechanism. The same applies for inside the vehicle (specially inside the vehicle). I know if I come anywhere near my local race track with a camera mounted on suction cups, the safety guys will tell me to get lost.

Hell, even when I mount the camera securely on the harness bar, I'm still required to tie it down to the child seat clip in the hatch area.

Gotta agree with you there. I've never used a suction mount, but amazed at how well they hold on. I run with a private group, so don't think anyone's really checking. I'd be more than a little ticked, if one of these got loose and hit me. Could cause a crash. Maybe the small clamp on helmet cam's, the way to go. Actually the little sunglass job is looking better, still.

Saw on one web site that Go Pro is introducing a new HD version of the camera in October. http://www.revzilla.com/product/gopr...5-mgpix-camera

I agree with you but I was at the C@C event at our local track and some guy had a C6 ZR1 with a camera mounted to the roof with suction cups and the wires running to the car through the hatch.

I asked him about it and he said that he hadn't had any problems. I guess if the cups fail the wires pinched in the hatch will keep the camera from hitting another car - but I imagine it might do a number on your rear hatch.

I've run in excess of a buck-fourty with one on the rear glass and one up on the windshield...video was rock solid. When that suction cup is engaged, coupled with the light weight and small frontal area of the housing, those things are glued to the car.
I use the standard mount under the front nose on my car, which uses that 3M double side tape...that **** is strong as h3ll as well.

There promotional videos show these cameras attached to all types of high speed racing vehicles
