Zip, are you going to use the 500 or 1000 mile rule for break-in? What's you break in technique.

I will break it in as per the manual. No hard starts or stops. No cruise control, vary the engine rpms and speed, row thru the gears. In a nutshell: do not keep the engine speed/load at a constant level for the first 500 miles. Keep away from red line.

I worked in the engineering lab at Detroit Diesel for over 35 years. Can't remember how many different engines I ran thru the years. 2 stroke, 4 stroke Detroits, and numerous experimental products. Basically the same techniques were used to break in a "green" engine.

What the manual says is what has been the norm for breaking in any new engine. We use to break an new engine in with non-detergent oil after a rebuild.

The engine isn't your main concern. The transmission, differential, and other moving components are and should be. Be gentle on those for 500 miles, or your diff is going to start howling at you at highway speeds and be insanely annoying in the long run.

Pinoy: I know what your saying. However, there are medical issues (nothing serious) that take priority.

I did drive it across state lines last weekend for the NCM Anniversary, and plan on driving her to Brasselton GA in couple of weeks for the ALMS Petit LeMans.

Sorry to hear..... there is no quicker way of making yourself "feel" better than flooring your zr1 and hearing the valves open and feeling the vibrations in your seat! Take care

I tried mine,it seemed to really limit the power, like leaving traction control on in my Z06.I guess it was working, the tires didn't spin much at all.

Don, the lauch control posistion on my Zr1 feels just like leaving my Z06 traction control on and trying to do a burn out.I'm not I've never heard of your problem? You might do a post in Tech&Performance.

If you have been on a factory tour you won't have to worry about causing damage to your ZR1 engine - it goes from initial cold start up to "the rollers" where it is run basically full throttle through the gears - if it blows it goes to the repair box - I was at the factory when the ZR1s were first being built and there wasn't one inside the factory that did not have a "do not start" sign on it - I asked our tour guide about that and he said very quietly that "they were having problems" with the ZR1 at full throttle - apparently "the problem" has been fixed - the ZR1 engine is built to blueprinting standards - the only way those piston rings are going to seat properly is with some full throttle runs - so "drive it like you stole it" and ENJOY the very finest Corvette ever built - of course the 2009 ZR1 owners will always have the fastest ZR1 as Government Motors continues to constrain performance with "launch control" and other ridiculous castrations
