Default Race Track Video..Z06 vs Porsche 996 turbo

Here is a link to some footage from Pueblo Motorsports Park. I was in my Z trying to keep up with a Porsche 996 turbo. The all wheel drive P car was on Hoosiers and I was on Bridgestone Pole Position run flat street tires. The turbo all wheel drive had the advantage hooking up the power and the traction, coming out of the corners, and had more power than my Z.
I knew the fastest line and the braking zones a little bit better than he did, since this is my home track. You will see me almost loose it on lap 2 in the hairpin ( I got a little high up into the marbles), but I gathered it up and ran him down.
At the end of the long straight we were doing between 138 and 142mph

Agreed - nice steady drive. A good hand position on the wheel

You have the same problem that I have with the gear stick - too close.

All shut off. I always shut off all driving aids every time I start the car, wheather on the street or on the track. The only assist I like is having ABS for the brakes, and a rev limiter for the engine.

Thanks for sharing, you mentioned that the 996 had a bit more power, was it tuned?

I have since fixed the stick position problem. I always thought the OEM stick was way too far back for my size/seating position. I have recently installed a B&M short shifter and turned it around backwards, so it has pushed the stick as far forward as it can be. 1st, 2nd and 5th now almost touch the radio. 2nd, 4th and 6th are now about 3 1/2 inches farther forward than where the OEM stick started out. I no longer have to bend my wrist to grab 2 and 4, like you saw in the video. I love my new shifter.

B&M on the left..OEM on the right.
You can see the B&M has just a slight bend in the shaft (right at the pivot point), position it forward and it moves the stick almost an inch forward as compaired to the back angle. You can see how radical of an angle the OEM shifter has. OEM throw is 4 1/2 inches and the B&M is only 3 inches.

Seems to me the price difference between the two cars, the Vette held its own. Had the Vette been on Hoosiers.....he may have done better. Was the Vette stock, engine and suspension. Hhat was the HP on the Porsche?

Z engine and suspension all stock..Pcar all tricked out. He said he was at about 560 hp at the wheels. At this high altitude I am closer to about 400 hp Never had it on a dyno but I know 5000 - 7000 ft up will suck out a lot of hp.

Maxx

Great news on the B&M. I have one on order.

I will look at the fitting options and if suitable for me, will reverse the lever as you did

Thanks for that

What is the "heel-toe" gas pedal?

One thing about the forward placement of the shifter..with the big goofey stock shifter ****, your nuckles will bump the AC dial if you don't have a real close grip on the big ****. It is that far forward. If you use the Hardbar Delrin **** (which I just love) there is no clearence issue.

Nice driving Keith.

And that Porsche was certainly powerful.

I did not like the stock shifter and replaced with B&M shifter about two years ago. I started having problems with engagement and made the switch to the MGW. After disassembly I discovered the B&M cup had disentegrated. Plastic "filings" were all over the top of the shifter assembly. The B&M cup is similar to stock while the MGW is a different shape and materials. No problems now the shifter is very tight, precise and no rattle.

BTW enjoyed the video, thanks for the post.

Maxx,
What tire pressures are you running at the track?
I'm doing my first HPDE with the Bridgestones in 2 weeks.
I was running 28psi hot on the OEM Goodyears.
