Streaks in Carbon Fiber Roof Panel
Anyone experiencing “zebra-like” streaks in the carbon fiber roof panel? Really noticeable in direct sunlight and less noticeable in the shade.

Yes, I asked this same question in a posting last month. It also will happen under the hood when exposed to sunlight (No UV protection under hood like on roof.) I went and looked at a new ZR1 at a dealer close by and it had those same streaks.

I'm still not sure why GM didn't just paint the roof body color to begin with. Avoid the cost and complexity of the carbon fiber/clear coat issue and have a better looking car as well.

In direct sunlight I only notice the carbon fiber pattern reflecting, it looks like highlighted lines. If that’s what you’re referring too then it’s the nature of CF. Otherwise you might have something defective in the material, not sure. See if you can get pics.

Dude if you cant even keep the car out in the sun then just crush it and be done with it.
Whats next "Oh my god I found out today that my engine is wearing out while i drive! I must turn it off and return to the garage immediately."

I have observed this "streaking" on my ZR; but after much research I think it's just an "effect" that the carbon fiber gives off. I can put the car in the sun and based on some angles see the "streaking" but put the car in side under heavy inside lighting and the effect goes away. It even depends on the angle of the sun. So my conclusion; at least on my car; is that there is no real streaking in the carbon fiber.
So yours may or not be experiencing the same effect.

You invest $120,000 in a car and see what weird things you do. I agree it seems "over doing it" but any extra car on one of these is warranted.

If you're investing your money in a ZR1, or almost any other car for that matter, you better re-think your portfolio...

I have owned several lamborghini Diablo 6.0 cars that the body is made entirely of carbon fiber and many naked carbon pieces including the rear wing. The streaks are normal in the sun just as someone said. There is nothing wrong and carbon can take all the sun you can throw at it. Enjoy

in very hot direct sun the clear coating of the cf will eventually turn a milky white and actually start chipping off in very small chunks. this is the clear that that is first sprayed into the mold - i am told. it is only a finish and has nothing to do with the strength of the panel. under warranty here mine have been replaced with regular panels awaiting the cf ones delivery. my clear engine cover has also gave way, but is easily replaced i am told. t
