[Z06] Dealership News Update On Z06 and ZR1

I heard our government along with GM is going to start sponsoring a new hull building program for the Z06's in Florida.
Since we (Z's) are burning so much fuel and toxifying the atmosphere with horrible emissions, the polar ice caps are melting, and soon Florida will be under water so we will need these hulls to put under our cars to make them sea worthy.
Mr Obama has already approved this 50 trillion dollar measure and GM will start next month with production.
They are calling the project "Sea-0-6"...

but BO certainly can try. He seems to think the Constitution does not apply to him. Did you ever expect the POTUS to take over GM and Chrysler and give the UAW a huge % while breaching the contract clause and telling the shareholders to stick it ?
The USSR never allowed in any of the cars you stated, so I'm sure the USSA can try to do the same
The USSR never allowed in any of the cars you stated, so I'm sure the USSA can try to do the same
The CEO That obama fired also thought he was "safe" for a while. So did Pontiac. And Saturn.
My personal belief is that the Corvette will have to go the way of the Saturn, and we can only hope that Penske has a hand in it when it does go.
I am afraid that the only way to stop this nonsense is to boot the Socialists out and "REPEAL" these foolish laws and DE Fund the Community organizers that are now slated to get Billions to spend toward their propaganda.
Other than that, I have my name on a 2009 ZR1 that has already been given a serial number. BUT My dealer is going to wait for some time to see if the 2010 ZR1 order that we put in will get a build date.
If it gets a build date, then we will know that the 2010's will be ok, and I get a 2010 instead of the 2009. It didn't make sense to get a 2009, when they are building the 2010s just a couple of weeks later.
Hail to the chief

The dealers/sales agents have their own wallets in mind when stating BS like this. They are just trying to build a sense of urgency and convince you to buy one quickly before they "are no longer produced".

I think it's nonsense.
The first factory Chrysler started back up was the Viper line.

Chrysler restarts Viper factory

Chrysler will soon be making cars again.
Chrysler Group announced Monday that it is restarting a factory, after shutting down all of its manufacturing for nearly seven weeks following the bankruptcy of Chrysler LLC. Chrysler Group is the new company that emerged last week with most of Chrysler's assets and a new ownership structure.
The first plant to reopen is the one that makes the Dodge Viper sports car.
The Viper has a 600 horsepower V-10 engine and a price tag that starts at about $90,000. The Viper was introduced in the 1992 model year, and only 25,000 have been sold since then.
The Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit that makes the car employs 115 people.
Chrysler LLC had announced last year that it intended to sell off the Viper brand. The high-performance, 10-cylinder sports car sells in low numbers. Ultimately, Chrysler said it had not received any bids that met its requirements. Chrysler's other plants remain idle.
"At this time, we cannot give exact timing in regards to the start of production at our other manufacturing facilities," Chrysler Group said in a statement.
The Viper brand and the plant that makes the car, the Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit, were taken over by the "new" Chrysler that emerged last week from bankruptcy.
The Chrysler Group is owned by a combination of the Italian automaker Fiat, the United States government, the United Auto Workers union's retiree trust and the Canadian and Ontario governments.

Looking at the "big picture" of America's financial crisis we are in, I tend to be a pessimist in thinking a the Z06 and ZR1 will be anything as we know it now today. Will the Z06 exist? Sure, but not with 505hp. Will the ZR1 make it? No.
Now that GM's largest shareholder is the US gov't, it is being manipulated by a hand full of people, one of which was elected (o-bama) and the others non-elected (his cabinet and appointee's), we are in for a world of pain. Think about it people, we have one man with no business background (o-bama) and then people he wants (car czar, advisers) that are NOT elected but appointed and voted on but the oh-so honest politicians in our Congress.
GM cars and the cars we drive in the near future will all NOT be want the buyer wants to buy. The product choice will be manipulated by the Controllers of " a Free Market". Contradiction isn't it?
Okay so some of us don't think GM is in bad shape, or even Corvette. Wrong. Does it matter to our Gov't that cars are not the big polluters on the planet? Heck no, one container ship pollutes more than 50 million cars annually, and there are only estimated to be 250 million passenger cars in america, so that equates to 5 ships! Only one slight problem, there are 90,000 ships on the open seas in various sizes. Don't believe me? Look it up.
While o-bama thinks 35mpg cars are the answer, he forgot to see the "big picture". If he is concerned about oil, then america could drill right in South Dakota with the "newly discovered in April of 2008" released by the U. S. Geological Service, which increases our Oil Reserves to fuel Americas needs for the next 41 years straight (8x's more than Saudi Arabia) . Don't believe it? Google "bakken shale oil US Geological Service".
For those of us who "Trust in our Goverment" to do the right thing, do yourself a favor (and your children, and your childrens children) and educate yourself. Start openning your eyes.
Google the Federal Reserve and it's history. You will be amazed at what you learn. The Federal Reserve is a Private Bank people. Private. A audit of it's books have never been done since its creation in 1913 (oddly one month before Income Tax was signed/weaved into our existance and unconstitutional btw). We the people of the America do NOT even know who the owners of the Fed are, that information has Never been publicically disclosed. Sound odd, don't believe me? Do your research if you really care about America and It's future....
Finally, if you really want to hear a interesting comment, watch this clip of Judge Napolitano's (fox news commentator) on youtube regarding the Fed and how new powers will end American Life as we know it.

Sorry for the long off topic rant. I care about America's future and I hope you do too. I don't want out country going down the toilet...
So will the Z06 and ZR1 be around in the future? Your guys remember the Mustang II in the 70's?

Take about 30 minutes and watch all three interviews. Pay close attention to what Lutz and the engine guy (3rd one) say.

Not to derail an already worthless thread but until they make Ethanol from a non-food crop I can't get excited about this. I know there is stuff in the works but I believe all the stuff you buy today comes from corn. As much as I love my Z I'd rather be able to eat than drive it.
All the subsidies I'm paying for the farmers are driving me crazy too.

A letter I just got forwarded to me from my Corvette Club which is nice to read because it does NOT focus on the doom and gloom so many love to talk about.

JD Power Results – Something to Smile About
Bowling Green Assembly Employees,
JD Power results are in, and I am proud to deliver the exciting results for the Chevrolet Corvette and Bowling Green Assembly team.
First, the Chevrolet Corvette was ranked the Best GM Model.
The Chevy Corvette score came in at 71 PPH, placing us at the top of the pack for all GM models. This is an improvement of 21 points from our previous year’s score of 92 PPH. In addition, our car came in at the top of its segment – beating our fierce competitor, Porsche, by 1 PPH. This is truly an awesome victory. Unfortunately, an award will not be given due to a shortage of entries in the segment, but we have a lot to celebrate for with this accomplishment. We do not need an award to tell us how well we performed.
Second, the Bowling Green team secured the Bronze Plant Award.
Our plant score, which indicates the number of quality issues that were plant controllable, came in at only 43 PPH - tying with the Toyota Georgetown Plant and the Ford Truck Plant. In addition, this top-notch score was only 1 PPH away from the Silver Plant score (Oshawa Car @ 42 PPH) and 2 PPH away from the Gold Plant score (Honda, East Liberty, Ohio @ 41 PPH).
Third, we achieved our plant mission: To competitively produce the highest quality vehicles in our market segment by using our greatest resource, our people working together.
Our award winning quality performance in the annual JD Power survey demonstrates our focus on quality and the immense amount of pride our team has in building cars. Make no mistake, it has been a difficult go for the Bowling Green team - working through unprecedented times and multiple derates, a Special Attrition Program, layoff and downweeks. But this plant just proved its winning spirit and dedication to customer satisfaction, even when times are tough. Time and time again, I have watched you work together to surface issues and develop and implement solutions. Your hard work and patience have paid off, and the quality of our products leaving the plant is better than ever before.
Now, we MUST CONTINUE OUR FOCUS ON QUALITY. We need to celebrate on the run and keep moving forward in the right direction because we know that is the mindset of our competition. In addition, the scores of the top 25 plants in the U.S. were separated by only 10 points, so as you can see, our competition is intense. I truly believe this team can bring home the Gold Plant Award next year and stay on top as the Best GM Model.
As you leave for this next shutdown, please take a moment to pat yourself on the back and say congratulations to your team members for a job well done. When we come back to work, let’s continue to work together to show who’s best!
Congratulations Bowling Green Team.

Just my two cents but I can see Corvette surviving as GM stated but the higher horsepower cars disappearing in 2011. That would be consistent with current automobile happenings. JMHO

I have a good dealer friend who told me last week "If you want a performance or big vehicle from GM you need to buy it in the next 12-18 months. After that they won't be available new for any price. Hope he isn't right. I may be keeping the the GM cars I have and never buy another new car.
