I hope they continue with their winning ways when they switch to GT2. I also hope they get those drive line issues fixed once and for all. Was a great race to watch, their in a dog fight in the GT2 class. Should be good racing. We'll really find out what their made of.Looking foreword to the first GT2 race.

Yea, Corvette vs. Ferrari vs. Porsche should be some great racing. I kinda quit following the races after all the competitors left GT1. Factory lapping days, not that exciting.....

I can't wait for the for GT2 vette against the GT2 F430............. should be great.

Default On To Smaller and Better Things

As one of the commentators put it, the Corvette was the quintessential GT1 car. I did get the sense after this race that there may not be a GT1 class anymore what with the dwindling competition and all.

As for the move to GT2, the Corvette team will have their work cut out for them in this class. Even as the Ferraris dominated this year's race, Porsche will be back with a vengeance for the 2nd half of ALMS. I can't help but wonder how the new C6R will be adapted for this category. Even counting the occasional flashes of brilliance by the BMW M3 and the Panoz Esperante, no front-engine car has ever dominated this class, so it will be the ultimate test for the new car and the team. Viva Corvette!

Weren't they racing against Aston?

Can someone give me a quick rundown of the major differences between the GT1 and GT2 class?

smaller wings/few aero modifications, no carbon brakes, narrower wheels/tires, smaller engine. Cars in the $400K-$600K new vs ~$1M.

As for the GT1 race, congrats to the team for beating their old car from last year. GT1 has been a dead class for almost 2 years.

I'm glad Corvette won, but they were racing themselves.

They haven't any competition for a while. I heard that the turnout was supposed to be much bigger initially, but with the way the auto world has been going lately, a lot of people backed out.

I'd like to see a more diverse group next time. The GT2 class will be fun to watch next year at Le Mans.

When you have manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, and GM racing it scares off a lot of smaller competitors because they just don't have the budget or the focus to put together the car and resources to beat teams like that.

Default Last win for GT1

Myself and some friends spent some time with the Pratt and Miller team in Sebring in mid May. They had the GT2 car there to run some hot laps and for homologation purposes. The GT2 car is amazing and I think after a few races they will be right there with the best of the others. It is basically a modified ZR1. It uses the hydro-formed aluminum frame straight from the Zo6 and the ZR1. The frame was modified so the oval exhaust ports could go out behind the front tires. The whole body is CF and it has the standard ZR1 rear wing as well as a larger one. It also benefits from the stock ZR1 front splitter as well as the side rocker extensions. One of the biggest challenges which they face is the fact that in GT2 they use restrictors to limit intake air volume on the various motors. They attempt to limit the various cars so their is good racing between the different brands (parody). Therefore, if Corvette were to go out and blow the doors of the competition, the sanctioning body would just restrict the intake air further, thus limiting horsepower. Mid-Ohio will be a great test for the GT2 car and i think we all have to admit that Pratt and Miller has assembled the finest talent available. Every member of the team, weather they are race drivers, mechanics, information technoligist and everybody involved, they are the best.

GTS/GT1 results

6 out of 10 ain't bad and up until this year there has been pretty good competition. I just want to know how long it's going to take GM to learn to paint the cars yellow and leave it alone. They never win when the cars are painted different. the 64 car didn't stand a chance.

2000 - Viper GTS-R
2001 - C5-R
2002 - C5-R
2003 - Ferrari F550

I don't know what chances they have...Katech won't be building the engines for the GT2 cars. GM is doing it in-house. Biggest mistake for GM to make IMHO.

We all know what a bang-up job they've done with the Z06 motors....bad rockers, dropped valves, oil starvation...the list is endless.

The reliability of Katech power is one of the reasons the factory GT1 team did so well. Add to that the stellar preparation of Pratt & Miller on the rest of the car and it was a recipe for success.

Why don't you discuss your concerns with the bankruptcy judge?

No problem Jason...your list of victories, championships won, etc. over the years is a tough nut for anyone else to crack.

Your guys are tops

When I get the chance I'll be sending some of my hard-earned money your way for some "improvements"...

P.S. Don't forget to add LeMans 2009 GT1 victory to your (endless) list of accomplishments...the guys deserve a drink on us

Thanks. Maybe Luc Alphand can win Le Mans GT1 2010. The privateer European teams are all rocking Katech engines.

Yes, as far as class of the field the Corvette Racing factory effort was there to battle themselves ultimately. However this is a 24-hour race and anything can happen. I can tell you the team was racing all out the whole 24-hours. The mechanical failure of the 64-car proves that nothing is certain at Le Mans. The other accomplishment is finishing 14th overall to the entire field. The C6R did better than many prototype entires. That would not have happened if they were just laying back to collect a trophy. The GM team put everything they had into this event. Katech came-up with 4 brand spanking new race engines for just this event. Nothing was left to chance from preparation. The GT1 field for Le Mans started out with 9 entires but was downsized through teams pulling out in the economic crunch. GM should be congratualted for pursuing their dream of winning Le Mans convincingly no matter the commitment in time or cost.
