Yep, CATs are in place, bad thing is that, if one of the CATs break up, which is possible. All the debris will go down the exhaust pipe and lay waste to the turbo(s) in the rear.

Not to mention then force feeding the debris into engine. Who runs cats before a turbo?

OUCH I have a picture of a high flow metallic substrate cat that came apart somewhere. This was on a Vortech Supercharged LT4 C4 that was making 620 to the wheels. The core blew out of the cat body and wedged itself inside the X pipe, lets just say he had a sudden LOSS of power At least it was relatively minor issue to resolve, but had it been a rear mounted turbo in that same situation, then the guy would have been buying a couple new turbos, or least a major repair bill!

The exhaust that drives the turbos remains exhaust out of the turbo. If a cat did break apart, the crumbs would probably break off a few vanes on the turbo and spew them out the exhaust.

To answer your second question: STS Turbos are run in place of the mufflers in the rear of the car. That's why the cats are before the turbos.

And yet more reasons I'd never consider the STS setup. To each his own.
