2005 C5Z - HPDE car - 20k miles

Motor was replaced this winter - no clutch issues prior. 5-6 HPDE's and more than a few launches. Previous owner did many as well.

After 4-500 miles break in I am doing high RPM shifts.

It took a few cycles but I get the sticking pedal - it stays roughly half way down - ONLY on high RPM shifts. After slowing down and pulling the pedal back out normal operation resumes.

I'm using Motul RBF600 because the clutch line goes awfully near the headers.

Will flush/clean and report back.

The clutch was clearly engaged when the pedal was stuck - I had to rev match to shift. So - the clutch master cylinder MUST be what is hanging up. There is no way some dust will stop the slave cyl/clutch from re-engaging when you release the pedal??

What action returns the pedal/plunger? - pressure from the returning fluid?

This was very well done. I just replaced my clutch fluid following your procedures. It made a big difference in my clutch pedal feel.

Thanks for sharing with us your insight. This well help us learn and pass it on.

Thanks Ranger. My 06 has a little over 12,000miles. I don't know why I've never paid any attention to the clutch fluid, but it looked like "INK".

I ran 3 bottles of Prestone Dot 4 through it per you instructions and finally it looks pretty good.

Thanks for the info. Mine took about 20 flushes and 2 bottles of DOT 4 Prestone fluid. I used a mini hand pump designed for oil bottles to suction out the old fluid.

My car must have really needed it since the clutch seems to engage/disengage more smoothly between shifts after having done it. (Apparently 3 years and 32,000 miles is at the far end of the stock fluid's effectiveness).

I did notice that it seems to get dirty again after a couple of run cycles though. I'm pretty I did it correctly because each time I put in fresh fluid and pumped up the system the reservoir would be dirty again.

My car only has 850 miles on it and the fluid is already coffee black. I've never launched the car, and very few high-rpm shifts. Sad.

Thank you RANGER...I bought my 08 with 15,000 miles on it last fall. The Clutch fluid condition was hideous. It took 20 charges and a 6 pak of beer to clean it up. Also changed the brake fluid as it was also contaminated. Thanks again for the very informative info and video.

Ranger said DOT 4 for the Clutch Master Cylinder and I used DOT 3 for the Brake Master Cylinder as indicated on the B/M/C cap.

Bud is correct. Here are the specifics from an earlier post in this thread:

In practical terms the fluids are equivalent. And if swapped frequently, I don't see any particular benefit to running the GM-brand (Part No. 88958860), which costs 5-times as much and isn't always available at dealers.

Prestone DOT4 12-ounces $2.65 at Walmart
GM Super DOT4 8-ounces $8.50 at dealers, when available

I just did mine this afternoon. Just bought the car, has 22k miles on it. I went through 2 bottles of Prestone Dot 4. After 2 bottles, it was looking nearly as clear as it was coming out of the bottle, but I could see the smallest of white specks in the fluid still. I think I re-flushed it out 4 extra times to get rid of those miniscule spots before I conceded the fact that it will never look like it just came out of the bottle when it has to cycle through the line, slave, master, etc... The color was identical, but fresh out of the bottle it is 100% clear...then after 30 pumps, it is the same color, but has this tiny tiny little white/clear/air specks in the fluid. Is it possible to pump the system enough to make those disappear? Am I just too lazy, or am I expecting the impossible?
