Why can't GM simply make an option for an "upgraded interior" and charge $10-$20K for it (or whatever), or contract with one of the after market guys like Garravagio for an upgraded inetrior, and then we'll be done with the magazines' and other's negative comment about the interior

That's crazy. The Viper puts up the fastest 0-150, best gas mileage and is the cheapest yet it loses.

Dont put any stock in what the rags say, especially car and driver, if there was a BMW in that mix it would have won for having the best cup holders. What I dont understand is why they used the base model Viper(whuch was still faster than everything else) in there, all the other cars were the upgraded versions, as far as top speed, all they had to do was take the wing off for it to go over 200mph, something that is easily done.

I feel your pain.
Welcome to my world when the Z06 lost to an F430 and a Porsche Turbo because of the interior yet the Z06 was faster, braked better and handled just as well and cost less than the other two.
I think we should all just be thankful the mighty M3 wasn't in this comparo.

Just for reference heres how these two beasts stack up to some mega dollar heavy hitters in the 0-150mph arena.
Enzo: 13.1 secs
Mclaren F1: 12.8 secs
Veyron: 11.3 secs
Zonda F: 13.0 secs
Carrera GT: 13.2
Maserati MC12: 13.1
Considering the price of the machines that it would take to beat these two you just have to love both ZR1 and Viper. Nothing close to there price can touch em and that includes the excellent but over hyped GTR.

chalk it up to the drivers. in a month or so another mag. will come out and say that the zr1 beat the viper hands down and then another mag will say the differ. just look at motortrend. took the zr1 to 11.2 at 132(i think) has another mag took the viper that fast? Its all in the driver mod. period.

so if you add 40 rwhp worth of mods to the Z06 then its a drivers race against the viper. What is your point?
I guess a Z06 with those mods will beat a ZR1 then since it couldn't even beat a stock viper in this comparison.

But anywho, even if the Z06 with an intake and a tune can run with an 08, that is at least 30 rwhp above a stock Z06. I am just saying that it is not fair to compare a modified Z06 vs. a stock Viper. Put a set of headers and an intake on the Viper and compare apples to apples, and the Viper will be ahead again.
For the millionth time, while the Viper is the better looking/faster car than the Z06, the Z06 is the more comfrotable/better daily driver. Buy what suits you best and move on.

Viper coupe is amazing.
Car and Driver posted a video and review running the Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Lamborghini Murciélago, and Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series running heads up. Here is a summary of their performance results:
2008 Dodge Viper Coupe
1/4 mile: 11.8 @ 128 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.6
0-150 MPH: 16.4
2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
1/4 mile: 11.7 @ 127 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.6
0-150 MPH: 17.1
2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series
1/4 mile: 11.7 @ 126 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.6
0-150 MPH: 17.9
Lamborghini Murciélago LP640
1/4 mile: 11.5 @ 127 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.2
0-150 MPH: N/A
The most interesting matchup here is the Viper and the ZR1, this appears to be the first time they have been tested together. While the ZR1 won the 1/4 mile race, the Viper appears to have more top end pulling power, trapping higher in the 1/4 mile, and further extending the lead, beating the ZR1 to 150 MPH by 7/10th of a second. In the end, it’s a drivers race with the Viper and ZR1, both are very fast and amazing performers, although ultimately Car and Driver awarded the ZR1 first place and the Viper 4th place.
