ZR1 at 300 mph ?
I have a video link on my blog of a yellow ZR1 on the autobahn. It's hard to tell because the camera is jiggly, but the speedometer looks like it's at about 310. Maybe that's kph?
Here's a link if you want to view it.

The video player is at the bottom.
There are about five or six videos on it, so scroll through (there are arrows on the sides in the middle) until you see a yellow Vette on a lift. That's the one.

Allegedly, thats the 2011 test mule with the scram jet engine. It also runs on peanut oil and gets 120 miles per gallon. Probably could run over 400 if they would put a real race car driver in the seat and not an engineer...

Drifting
At 2,000HP, which the ZR1 needs to go 300MPH, I dont think the tires and body panels will hold at that speed. Cant imagine where the roof is going to land.

You write a blog about sports cars, then wonder if a production car can go 300 mph? Seriously? Man, the web has really done a number on us. No one needs credentials. Everyone is an "expert".

It takes a dragster 5000 hp to go over 300mph. Granted that's acceleration in a quarter mile, but they only gain about 60 to 70 mph in the last 1/8 mile due to wind resistance. I don't think at 1300 hp a vette would even come close. I don't care what you can calculate, real world it's not possible. The wind resistance would almost be impossible to overcome. Not to mention all the parts that would be flying off or the car getting airborne!
cheers!

It's all about the calculations my friend. Always. That 5000hp is all about the acceleration. If the drag car can get to 300mph in 5 seconds with 5000hp I bet with 2000hp it can get there in a minute. And I bet that Lingenfelter car with no gigantic wing on the back can get to 300mph with proper gearing and a long track.
